One By Millions

chapter 5

Shino sighed as she popped a lollipop into her mouth. The room was silent. The only thing to be heard was the familiar beeping of the cardiogram. She ended up in the hospital only a week after she got out. Things we're going great for some time. No problems occurred at all. She was keeping her suger intake constant and didn't suffer any major headaches. Everything was great until earlier in the day when she was suddenly overwhelmed by her own senses. She could suddenly  hear things far out of her range of hearing. Different scents assaulted her and confused her to no end. She was picking up on everything around her at every moment. She was doing way to much at the same time and she was aware of it all. Her headache returned and the pain in the throat. Before she knew it she was coughing up blood and passed out again.

And just like the last time she woke up in the hospital.

She woke up to the familiar annoying beeping and found some odd device over both her ears and a smaller one over her nose.

The door opened and the familiar doctor strolled in. She found out that he was her family's personal doctor and the only doctor in the hospital that's  aware of their status.

"Hey there little Kiddo"

"Hey doc. Where are my parents "

"They'll be here soon. Your butler made sure to call them and fill them in on what happened"

"I had a sensory overload didn't I? "

"That you did. Those devices you're wearing are making sure you don't enter it again. The second those are removed you'll overload again"

Shino sighed and plopped back onto her bed.

"Was it my brain? Was it working to its full capacity again? "

"Yes. The last time it had stopped when you lost consciousness, but it looks like it's still working double time"

"No wonder I felt like I was picking up on too many things at the same time. Am I going to be able to control my senses? "

"That I do not know, but for the time being you'll have to wear protective gear"

"What's the status update on my quirk? "

"Those stem cells of yours are still mass producing and replacing dead cells. That's all they seem to be doing. They stop producing temporarily and start up again once cells need to be replaced. Its an odd pattern. To me it seems as if they're waiting for something "

"My cells are waiting for something? "

"Yes"

"Alright whatever you say doc. I'll watch out. Anything else? "

"I don't think so. For now we just sit and wait on your parents so I can fill them in"

And so they waited. Shino had managed to pull the doctor into a game of gold fish when she saw a pack of cards nearby. Shino won for the most part but the doc was pretty good himself. Around a half hour later Shino's parents arrived looking as worried as ever.

"Are you OK? "

"I'm perfectly fine, dad"

"Are you sure"

"Of course I am mom"

"Shiro, Nico, let me fill you in"

Shino was left in the hospital room while the adults had a conversation outside. Every now and then she would fidget with the device on her ears. She was too aware of the thing to not notice it. She was aware of a lot of things. She was aware of the amount of heartbeats she produced in a minute. She was aware of the tubes in her arms. She was aware of the shift in temperature from a couple of minutes ago. She was aware of the practically unnoticeable stain on the white ceiling. Every little detail caught her eye and every bit of information was processed within seconds. Was her new awareness due to her brain working to it's full potential?
