I loaded the last box into the car and wiped the sweat from my forehead, after a day's hard work, I couldn't wait to get home and relax.
Mom placed a peck on my cheek, "Okay, see you at home later?"
She didn't wait for a reply and drove off. The sun was already dropping faster and I really needed a shower. My eyes drifted back to the house behind me and I frowned. Never has a woman confused me as much as this one. One minute she was distant and cold and the next she seemed fragile and on the verge of breaking. Why did it even bother me?
The moment I stepped through the front door for the first time, Katelyn started telling me what was wrong. Why call an expert if you seem to have all the answers?
I didn't fail to notice the way she looked at me when she first opened the door, like a starved woman seeing food for the first time. Then she shook her head and narrowed her eyes as if she was offended at the thought.
What the hell?
I was here to do a job and nothing more, nothing less but I seemed to forget that whenever her grey eyes landed on me. Like storm clouds, they electrified me and I just couldn't help it. Then there was the innocent blush that colored her cheeks every time I looked at her.
I shook my head, trying to shake some sense into my brain, although I doubt that's the one I was thinking with. I hopped into my truck but not before I made a reminder on my phone to get the flatbed tomorrow.
After getting home, I had dinner with the family, showered, and went straight to bed. My body was bone tired and I knew tomorrow would be worse. The house was in bad shape, sure, but that was nothing we haven't seen before.
Again my thoughts drifted to the petite brunette with the fiery personality. She may look shy and timid but that mouth of hers was anything but sweet.
Now I'm thinking about her mouth, great.
At least sleep would provide some distance from any thoughts related to Katelyn.
