Chapter twenty six - Truth

You hurried in the direction of the town,

would you make it in time?

It had been a few minutes, maybe fifteen....
Nothing bad could've happened in that amount of time, right?

You clenched your teeth in fear, the shaking of your running would probably wake Ceoko.

You glanced at him, he was thankfully still asleep.

You kept on running, you could see the town lights in the background.

You were close-

And yet,

Why'd he have to try and stop you?

Ceoko awoke as the smells returned to him, he turned back to human in a quick poof of smoke.

You dropped him and took a few steps back, your ears went down.

"Ceoko-" You started but he stopped you,
"No...."

You opened your mouth to say something but then closed it, Ceoko spoke instead,
"I can't let you do that..."

"We need to help him!" You shouted,
"Ceoko, let me pass!"

He hesitated,
"I can't let you do that," He said harshly.

You glared at him with sad and angry eyes, he was almost expressionless but his eyes showed worry.

"Let me pass!" You charged at him, he put his hands out to stop you and got ready to try and catch you.

He quickly moved to the side and grabbed you, you pushed him away. He stumbled a bit and let go of you,
"Wait!" He yelled after you, you didn't listen.

You weren't thinking straight.

It was dark out now so that means the demons could be outside or inside the warehouse. At least all the townspeople were inside.

You could hear his footsteps coming from behind you, you didn't care though.

You kept on running, the adrenaline kept you going. You ran into town, Ceoko could barely catch up even in his cat form. His cuts and scratches didn't help either.

You ran past the houses all while getting chased by a cat.

You looked up at the hill where the warehouse is, your breathing grew uneven and heavy.

He was there.

You hoped.

You dashed up the hill, Ceoko was saying something but you couldn't hear him anymore, you were here.

You froze at the entrance.

Ceoko bit your ankle.

"Ow!" You squeaked and pulled up your leg,
"Stop running!" He mewed angrily,
"I did!"

He got off of your ankle and transformed back.

He grabbed you by your arm,
"You can't go in there," He calmed down a bit.

You thought of Inosuke,
"I can do whatever I want!" You said.

He just looked at you like you were and idiot,
"no...."

You pushed him away then ran inside the warehouse,
"Wait!" He called out as he chased you.

It was quiet inside the warehouse. There were ashes on the ground.... it smelt like demons and fire....

Does that mean he killed them? He killed Douma?

Your ears went back up, he's okay-

Your eyes gleamed with relief.

Everything's going to be okay,

There was no need to worry, he was fine.

Inosuke was fine.

Ceoko was fine.

You're fine.

There was no need to worry, you smiled at your beliefs.

Yeah.

Though there was a small part of you that told you that it was wrong, that you were wrong.

You didn't want to believe it.

You didn't want to believe the truth.

You heard something from a door in a nearby hall, Ceoko was still calling out for you but you had something more important.

You went through the door to meet another door that lead to the back.

You rushed forward and opened it.

"Inosuke?!" You said happily.
