"aight i'm cool with that. enjoy ur date night !!"

After chatting with Christine I continued scrolling through my feed until I got bored. Just before I closed my phone, it rang with Mark's name as the caller ID. I quickly answered it and greeted him, "Hiya Mark, you ready for tonight?"

"Hey babe, I really hate saying this but I think we're gonna have to cancel our date night as well. Something happened at work and my boss wants me to stay a little bit longer." I was greatly disappointed at the news that Mark called to bear.

"Well shit... I-it's okay Mark. I know how important your work is to you." I said with a failed attempt to sound fine.

"I'm so sorry babe. How can I make it up to you?" he said through my phone. I thought about it for a while and finally made my decision.

"I think I need some time to myself... If that's alright with you of course." I said to him but mostly to myself.

"Alright, whatever you say Prairs. I'll call you later?" and with that I ended the call without even saying goodbye.

Don't worry, Prairs, he's just really busy.

Mark's call only added up to the list of my worries along with my eviction notice. And that made me overthink things until I make such a big deal of them than they really are. What I needed right now was an escape from this horrible reality.

I looked at my notifications and realized I hadn't read the last message Christine had sent me.

"sounds great! let's meet up at the coffee shop
near the diner at around 5pm  !"

Huh, looks like God answered my prayers after all.

I woke up the next day and- as usual- dragged myself out of my bed to prepare for work. I stepped out of the shower and into my work uniform that I have a love-hate relationship with.

I drove to the local diner and entered the back room, placing my things where I usually place them. I walk out to the counter where I found Alisa on her phone.

"Hey you're not supposed to be your phone during your shift. It's breaking the rules y'know." I said in a half-serious voice.

"Oh please, like you're any better. It's not like there's a lot of customers today anyways."

She's kinda right on everything.

We proceed with what we usually do during the day when Alisa called for my attention. "Hey Prairs."

"Mhm?" I hummed as I grabbed a washcloth and started wiping the tables clean. "You play the bass right?"
