☹☹☹
After a minute of more running and sneaking around, Conan finally stopped in his tracks; I bump into his back at his abruptness. I look over to see where he brought me, and it took my breath away.
Under a tree there was a picnic blanket propped on the grass, Conan's guitar on top of it. There were a bunch of lanterns surrounding the area. I slowly made my way to the blanket and sat down, basking in the view of the city lights below us. The tall lanky boy promptly sat beside me.
"So what do you think?" he asks, his hands gesturing around the setup. I couldn't say anything though, I was left speechless. Everything about this felt so- I don't know- enchanted.
"Don't leave me hanging." the boy beside me jokes and I roll my eyes. "It's amazing, Cone. I didn't need anymore surprises today though, you already did so much." I smile at him.
"Why not?" he says as he shifts his weight on both his arms, taking in the view in front of us. "Plus, I'm not even finished with the surprises." he continues and proceeds to grab his guitar, tuning it.
Just when this birthday couldn't get any better.
He then starts singing something, and I recognized the tune to be from 'Here, There And Everywhere' sung by none other than The Beatles.
To lead a better life
I need my love to be here...He starts singing the first few lines of the song, but I couldn't pay attention to what was coming out of his mouth. He looked so pure when he sang.
It was like I was in a trance; I can't stop looking at him, and the way his eyebrows furrow when he sings a certain note. The way his hands perfectly pluck every guitar string.
And his voice. Oh my god his angelic voice. I never seem to get tired of it, no matter how many times I've heard him sing. I didn't realize he was already near the end of the song as I finally turn my attention to the lyrics.
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always thereI will be there, and everywhere
Here, there and everywhereHe stops singing and looks at me, whose mouth was agape from his little performance. "As always, your voice is amazing." I finally say something as I smile warmly at the boy. "Thanks." he simply responded, nodding his head as he spoke. "I should be thanking you, in all honesty." I say to him.
"You did all this-" I gesture to everything around me. "Just for me. I couldn't ask for a friend as great as you." I then engulf him in a warm embrace, catching him off guard. After letting things sink in, he proceeds to hug me back. "Don't tell Alisa I said that though." I say in our embrace which made him chuckle.
After our long hug, we proceed to talk the whole night. We just chatted about anything and everything, not having a care in the world. I think both of us even forgot there was still a party going on and the birthday celebrant practically disappeared from it.
Once we've decided to end our nice little chitchatting, we stayed silent after; so I proceed to look at my surroundings. All the little things Conan has prepared today is just amazing. A surprise party was enough, but he still brings me to this- whatever this is.
I knew at that moment that I should never take this boy for granted. He is simply everything a friend could ask for. Although now, I'm starting to think I want to be more than just friends with him. It's been a while now, and I think I'm ready.
