ADAM BANKS QUIETLY changed out of his hockey gear that Thursday afternoon as he tried to mind his business. However, he couldn't help but continually hear the varsity players trash talk about the junior varsity team; the ducks.

Scooter sat beside the blond freshman and tried his best to seem as if he was unfazed when talking about the topic. The boy really just didn't want to get crap from Rick Riley.

"Wasn't there like," Rick began to laugh out, "a third girl?"

Adam felt his breathing hitch as he intently fixated his gaze on the gear he was packing up. The boy wanted nothing to do with the conversation and Scooter could sense that.

"Hey Banksy," Rick called with a smirk. Adam froze in his spot for a moment as he swallowed the lump in his throat. Hesitantly, he turned around to face the varsity captain.

"Y-yes?" He spoke out in a bit of a whimper and stutter

All the senior's had smirked at the boys flustered composure while Scooter eyed the boy with concern. However, Adam was much to anxious for what Riley had to say to even notice his gaze.

"What's that girls name? She left or something right?"

Riley's smirk was ever growing as Adam switched his gaze to the floor. "Yeah," he croaked out in a barely audible voice, "November... she uh... she got a scholarship in England for soccer-"

Adam finished his sentence as quick as he could. The varsity players didn't notice his sudden change in attitude but if any one of the ducks were in the room, they'd know what was going on.

He couldn't even say her name without feeling a sharp pain in his chest. He had to look back at his stuff to hide the water forming in his eyes.

"That right!" Riley chuckled as he looked around at his team in a victorious fashion. "What a wimp? Right?"

Suddenly, The freshman boy's jaw clenched as his hands balled up into fists. The boy had several emotions racing through his body at the moment but the one that currently stood out the most was anger.

Before he could do anything, Adam picked up his bag and walked out of the room abruptly. It took him all his power to talk about November in the first place; but the rest of it was harnessed into walking out of that room with his dignity.

Adam wiped away the tears that had unconsciously fallen down his cheeks. There again, the feeling flew through his body. Regret.

The blond found a bench as he turned the corner. Instant deja vu had got to him. He sat down on the bench and held his head in his hands. The boy shut his eyes tightly as his breathing picked up, flashbacks of the event that happened prior to summer flashed through his mind.

Adam wanted to punch Riley almost as much as he wanted to go back to her that day. But the boy just couldn't. He didn't know why and it was killing him. He was truly just clueless and confused about how he felt about things now. He didn't know what he wanted and everything he did was just forced. It's was like he wasn't making his own decisions; like he was incapable of making his own decisions. He just did what everyone else did in favour of saving himself from a high school life of hell.

However, what the boy didn't realise was that he was already suffering. Suffering much more than he would if he were to speak for himself.

"Banks," A sincere and familiar voice called from the corner, "there you are"

Adam swallowed the lump in his throat and turned his gaze up to see who was standing there. He couldn't help but freeze up upon seeing his varsity teammate and goalie, Scooter.

The older boy stuffed his hands in his pockets as he walked over to the freshman and sat down in the seat beside him. "You seemed really bothered earlier, are you alright?"

Adam just fixated his gaze back to the floor as he slowly and hesitantly nodded.

"Look I know Riley is my best friend and all but trust me," Scooter said in a reassuring voice, "I won't tell him anything- I'm quite uncomfortable trashing the JV team too.."

Without moving his look to the goalie. Adam ran a hand through his hair with a sigh. "If I'm going to be honest, I want to punch Riley's face out.."

Scooter chuckled a bit as he playfully rose his hands up in defence. "Hey I'm not stopping you, go ahead- I think all of us do at some point... but, why do you?"

Adam just shrugged and quietly thought to himself. "About what he said about Novem-" the boy sighed as he choked upon his own words. "A-about what he said about her..."

The goaltender drew his eyebrows together as he stared at Adam's side profile puzzlingly. He couldn't help but watch Adam's countenance fall into sorrow and uncomfortableness upon talking about the topic of November Collins.

"You don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to... I'm just wondering if you're holding up okay"

Adam finally glimpsed up at the junior with the best thankful smile he could muster. "Thanks Scooter, I'm just confused, that's all"

"About what?"

"Everything.." Adam mumbled with a shrug. Though, as usual, his thoughts trailed over to November. Part of him did want to finally talk about it. Finally get things off his chest. But Adam could yet. He really just wasn't ready. "I'm just trying to figure things out"

Scooter gave an understanding nod as he knew not to push his limits. Simply, the brunette boy just placed a reassuring hand on the younger blond's shoulder and cast him a soft smile.

"If you ever need anything," Scooter smiled, "I'm here man"

Adam just pursed his lips together into a halfhearted smile as Scooter stood up and began to walk off, leaving Adam with his constant and confusing thoughts about November Collins.
