You had only been in the motel room about 5 minutes before Gabriel pushed the issue about you and Sophia. You tried to laugh it off, but Gabriel was insistent. Gentle, but insistent. You tried to walk away, but he wouldn't let you.

"Y/n, you can't ignore me like this," Gabriel said tossing his suit jacket onto a hook as you did the same.

He was following behind you as you paced the room, setting up the police scanner and reorganizing your weapons for the 10th time.

Gabriel continued to insist," We have to talk about this. It's obviously important to you that you don't see Sophia, but in order to do this job, you have to come to terms with whatever she's done to you."

"You don't know what's she's done to me," you said," You don't understand anything. Now... Stop following me!"

"I can try to. Understand, I mean," Gabriel said, stepping in front of you to stop your pacing," Remember, I have three other archangel brothers. One of them being Lucifer. Trust me, anything to do with betrayal or abuse, I'll understand."

Fed up with his constant tailing, you sat down on the bed. Gabriel sits across from you on the other bed, not backing down from this.

"Fine. You want to know about me and Sophia?" you asked Gabriel.

"I do, I really do," Gabriel said.

"Alright," you said heatedly," Sophia and I were middle school friends. She was my only friend, but she had hundreds. She made friends with everyone. I didn't mind, that wasn't a big deal. Then... high school hit. Her friends all changed from little girls wanting friends to big, bad, gangsta girls who decided they were the most important people in the world. Sophia joined them and turned my life into a nightmare! She bullied me, humiliated me, tortured me! It got so bad that Uncle Bobby pulled me out of public school to homeschool me himself. The last time I saw her, at a mall, she got into a fist fight with me..."

"A fist fight?" Gabriel said in shock," Did you fight back?"

"Not in public," you said, then admitted," I did slash her tires though."

"Ah," Gabriel said, a mix of realization and amusement on his face.

"She was parked in a handicap space! She deserved it," you justified your criminal act.

"Not saying anything against it," Gabriel said, raising his hands up," If it were me, I would've made her think she was abducted by aliens."

"Maybe I can use that trick..." you muttered as you wrung your hands together.

"Or... you could try to help her," Gabriel said, then leaned forward and whispered," I saw into her head, as much as I could see into yours. She's hurting... lost. She's confused as to why her life fell apart like it did."

You looked up at Gabriel, wanting to not believe it, but seeing nothing but the truth in his eyes.

"Maybe someone who remembers who she was... will give her the clarity she needs," Gabriel suggested.

You shook your head," I hear you. But I don't think she's ready..."

"I'm not entirely sure about this," Gabriel said as he placed his hands on yours," But she'll never be ready. She'll never be prepared until it happens. That's the only way she'll understand the truth."

You nodded, taking a deep, shaky breath as you fought against a sudden onslaught of tears. Gabriel moved to sit next to you, wrapping his arm around your shoulders, letting you hide. You buried your head into his neck, trying desperately to keep your breathing even and not hitched. It was impossible though, and made you feel worse. The memories of the abuse you suffered at the hands of Sophia were flooding back in and unwelcome and overwhelming assault. You wanted to stop the overly emotional reaction. You didn't want to cry. Not right now. Not with Gabriel present. You hated feeling and looking like this in front of people.

"It's okay," Gabriel whispered into your ear," I'm here, I'm here... You're going to get through this. I'll help you, I promise..."

Time became nothing while Gabriel worked to alleviate the pain you were feeling. You needed to ground yourself in something. To keep the memories at bay. You clung to Gabriel's shirt, breathing in his scent. He smelled sweet, like candy. And warm, like a sunny summer day. It pulled you into a different world. One that wasn't inhabited by Sophia Sullivan. The world was warm and safe. You were warm and safe. Protected by Gabriel's arms and his invisible wings.

"You still with me?" Gabriel asked, his breath tousling your h/c hair," Y/n?"

"I'm here, Gabe..." you sniffled into his shoulder.

"We're not leaving until this ghost is resolved," Gabriel said," Why not kill a ghost in your past while you're at it?"

You buried your face into his neck again. The hair around the nape of his neck tickled your forehead. He nuzzled his cheek against your hair. His warm breath against your scalp as he shushed you, rocked you, rubbed your back. You felt yourself nodding off, your eyelids getting heavy. You felt Gabriel's chest shiver with a silent laugh.

"I feel you're tired," Gabriel said softly," Want to catch a few z's before we get out to burn a body?"

"No... but I don't have much choice now," you mumbled sleepily.

"Alright," Gabriel groaned as he picked you up and positioned himself on the bed, his back against the backboard, you laying beside him with," Just take a little siesta, and I'll take care of you, the phone, and the..."

You felt him looking around the room for some other third thing. You couldn't help but giggle just a tiny bit.

"... and the police scanner!" Gabriel said like a little child," I'll keep an eye on all of it. Don't worry about it. Take a little siesta, pajarito."

"What is that you keep calling me?" you asked as you drifted off.

"Pajarito... it's Spanish for little birdie," Gabriel whispered as his fingers played with your hair and caressed your cheek," Sleep little birdie, sleep..."

You weren't sure if he used his archangel powers to lull you to sleep but, at that moment, you didn't really care. You were just happy to have a few precious minutes of alone time with someone who actually cares about you and cares for you. Little Birdie, huh? You'd have to figure something to top that...
