Isbel's pov

When we had arrived at Saguru's home, I was surprised to see that it was English architecture, perfectly symmetrical in a pleasing way. There was a decent sized garden in the front with cherry trees and a fountain, I couldn't help but turn to see everything.

"You haven't even seen the back garden. There are more cherry trees, roses, and a coy pond,"Saguru said escorting me to the front door.

Saguru's housekeeper must have seen us pull up in the cab because she came out on to the front steps. She stood there waiting for us.

"So this must be your detective friend from London," she said.

"Isabelle Arens at your service ma'am," I said with a stage bow.

"You two can wait in the parlor for General Hakuba," She said as Saguru opened the door.

The parlor was a fairly large room one wall was completely covered with bookshelves, there were two sofas facing each other in the center of the room with a coffee table in between, on the side of the room farthest from the door was a fireplace with the Hakuba family emblem on it.

I walked over to one sofa and took a seat, on the table was a picture frame. I  picked it up, it was of a little boy about ten, he had hazel eyes and wavy dirty blond hair.

"That would be Saguru on his tenth birthday," A man's voice said.

I turned around to see Saguru's father.

"I've heard fond things about you," he said with a laugh.

I couldn't help but smile.

"I hope you won't have too much trouble with the media,"He joked.

"I might actually have to give him a lesson on how to properly avoid it," I said.

"Ahh so you have a sense of humor, that's good to know,"He said.

"What are you two talking about?" Saguru said walking over.

"Oh I was just going to perform a little magic trick,"I said, fanning out the deck of cards," Alright sir, pick any card, but don't show it to me. He picked one roughly half way through,"Alright now cut the deck anywhere you want to," I said. I put the general's card on the half that would have the old top card, and on top of that the other half of the deck so that the generals card was sandwiched between the old top and bottom cards(Magicians memorize these cards before  performing this trick), I flipped the deck over and fanned it out revealing the identity of every card,"Is this your card?" I said holding up the Jack of diamonds.

"Why yes it is," He said amazed.

With a flick of the wrist I his the card in my blazer sleeve and released the two doves I had hidden previously, making it appear that it had vanished.

"Amazing I would ask how you did it, but I know the rules," He said laughing.

"Thank you," I said with a smile, I snapped my fingers and called out,"Ace, Spades time to come back."

The birds flew back to me sitting on my shoulders.

"They don't call you The Magician's Detective for no reason now do they," Saguru said.

"I didn't know this is what Saguru meant when he said you were full of surprises," The general said, taking me by the arm and leading me to the dining room.
