Chapter Thirty six

Nagpalipat lipat sa kanilang dalawa ang tingin ng matandang mag-asawa na kasalukyang nagpapakonsulta dito kanina bago siya pumasok. Isang naguguluhang tingin ang iginawad ng mga ito sa kanya.

Chase followed her line of gaze. Tumikhim ito bago hinarap ang mag-asawa. Hindi niya sigurado kung papalabasin ba nito ang mag-asawa at paghihintayin sa labas o ano pero inunahan na niya ito.

"It's okay. Carry on. I'll wait for you outside."

She turned for the door but his voice stopped her.

"I have a couch." Ang mabilis nitong agap.

Muli niya itong hinarap. She gave him a questioning look.

"Uh... I mean... you can wait here instead." Anito sabay turo sa couch.

Her eyes went to it. "Oh, Okay..." Sagot niya bago naglakad papunta doon at umupo.

Once he saw her settled comfortably on the couch, saka pa lang nito ipinagpatuloy ang pagkonsulta sa pasyente.

Inilabas niya ang cellphone mula sa kanyang bag. She started scrolling through her emails and messages. Paminsan minsan, napupunta dito ang tingin niya. Then, her gaze would stay on him longer than necessary.

She studied his frame.

He has changed a lot from the last time she saw him. Physically, he looked bigger, taller, more matured and... as much as she didn't want to admit it, more handsome than before. Not that he wasn't good looking before. It's just that now... he looked a lot more different.

He's wearing a white button up long sleeve shirt which is neatly tucked in his black slacks. Sa palapulsuhan nito ay isang mamahaling relo at sa mga paa naman ay isang pares ng itim na leather shoes. He had his hair in a brushed up hairstyle.

He looks neat and smart.

All in all, masasabi niyang mas mukha pa itong modelo kaysa doctor kung hindi lang dahil sa puting doctor's coat na suot nito.

She immediately stopped studying his features when his eyes focused on her. Mabilis siyang nagbawi ng tingin at yumuko.

Did he saw her checking him out? Her cheeks reddened in embarassment at the thought.

Mayamaya pa'y muli itong nagpatuloy sa pagbibigay ng konsulta. Pasimple niya itong pinakinggan. Aside from his physical improvement, he also changed academically.

He sounds smart and intelligent.

Well how can he not, Cayenne? He's a damn neurosurgeon! Aren't neurosurgeons supposed to be smart and intelligent?

She rolled her eyes at herself internally.

"... I suggest we schedule you're operation the day after tomorrow. For now let's get you admitted and taken care of in preparation for your surgery."

"Doctor... mapapagaling niyo naman po ang asawa ko, hindi ba?"

Hindi niya maiwasang panoorin ang mga ito. She watch him hold the woman's hand, trying to reassure her. She was taken aback at the soft smile that he gave to the couple.

"Hindi malala ang kondisyon ni tatay. I have handled cases like this before. Mabuti ang desisyon ninyong magpakonsulta agad. I will take care of your husband, maam. I will try my best."

Nagsimulang umiyak ang mag-asawa. Chase offered them a box of tissue. Nagpasalamat ang mga ito dito bago tumayo. Pinanood niya kung papapano nito inalalayan ang mag-asawa palabas ng opisina nito.

He matured well over the years... Her father must have been very proud of the man he have become.

She scoffed at the thought then smiled bitterly.
