(y/n) pushes through the doors and goes to meet up with Steve, a small gasp escapes her lips as they watch the doctors operating on Fury behind a large glass pane. Her posture is stiff but demanding, face stone hard as they perform surgery on him.

"Is he gonna make it?" she asks.

"I don't know."

"Tell me about the shooter."

Steve huffs. "He's fast. Strong. Had a metal arm. Not your typical kind of assassin." he says glancing at (y/n) for a spare second, catching the hitch of her breath. It didn't come off as nervousness, and if Steve never looked over he would've never known, but he's got something on Celastiel. She knows something. Before he could even ask, Maria Hill steps beside them, watching.

"Ballistics?"

"Three slugs, no rifling. Completely untraceable."

"Figures. It's soviet-made." (y/n) concludes as Maria nods her head, hugging her arms.

They watch in shock as Fury's state deteriorates, the nurses and doctors moving more quickly, roaming around in precise steps as to not bump into the other, calmly ordering around.

"His BP is dropping." (y/n) muttered, eyes widening slightly as tension started filling the air. Steve, (y/n) and Hill watch in shock as Fury is flatlining, the nurse charging the defibrillators to 100 joules. (y/n) shakes her head slightly, not wanting to believe the scene in front of her. "Don't do this to me, Nick. Please don't."

Fury is given a shock with the defibrillator, but there is no response. The nurse charges it up to 200 this time, and Fury is given another shock. The anxious trio watch the doctors as they continue to try to revive Fury but he is still showing as flatlining. Steve turns away as they finally call his time of death, (y/n) still completely in shock. He looks down at the flash drive Fury had given him not long ago. Something definitely wasn't right.

(y/n) and Steve are now seen in an empty room where the doctors and nurses had laid Fury's dead body out. (y/n)'s face is blank and stoic, Steve standing right behind her, as she stares at Fury's body. Hill joins them a little later, squeezing a hand on (y/n)'s shoulder.

"I need to take him," she says sympathetically. (y/n) squeezes Maria's hand as she walks out quickly, Steve quick to follow her.

"(y/n)." he calls. (y/n) takes in a deep breath and tries to walk faster, despite knowing she couldn't outrun the super soldier. "(y/n)!"

She whips her head around, her stance of authority and power making her intimidating despite the height difference, teeth bared as she seethed at him. "Why was he in your apartment?"

Steve stands his ground, confused and hurt for the woman he had just met only hours before with an ally that was well and breathing, now lying dead in the room they just stepped foot out. They were close, Steve had concluded. Why else would she have this reaction? He says softly, somehow managing to look the woman straight in the eyes. "I don't know."

(y/n) shakes her head at Steve in disappointment, but before she can say anything, they are interrupted by Rumlow.

"Cap, they want you back at SHIELD."

Both (y/n) and Steve exchange slightly confused looks. He stares at (y/n), trying to read her face, but her aura just gives off that she's just as confused as him. "Yeah, give me a second."

"They want you now."

"Okay." Steve let out a sigh, eyes still locked with (y/n)'s. The flash of unnatural (f/c) glistens her (e/c) orbs, making Steve feel a little loosen, calm.
