Triss:

“Why are you here bhai?” I could here Manik’s voice. “That's none of your business Manik.” I heard Daivik’s voice and he said again “let’s talk outside, I don’t want to disturb her sleep.” His voice was as cold as ice, I could feel that he was not used to being questioned. “You threw her on the bed last night. Did you forget that? What are you playing at bhai? Why her? She is too naive for your cruelty, spare her at least!” Manik was totally disappointed with his brother. I felt bad for them. Why did I have come here at the first place? And why was he shouting on Daivik? I knew he was rude but he did help me. He might not be as bad as everyone said. I couldn’t help myself and opened my eyes. “ Manik..” I uttered. He looked at me and my eyes fell on the other huge mountain standing beside me. Now his eyes were stuck to the ground but then he looked at me as if he wanted to say something. His jaw clenched, his hold on the handle of the chair tightened. His chocolate brown eyes were not leaving mine at all. As if he wants to know what I have to say. “Sorry kiddo, I didn’t want to disturb your sleep. How are you feeling  now?” Manik came towards me with Bruno in his arms and sat beside me on the bed. I pulled myself up in a partial sitting position. “ I feel totally fine Manik. Thanks to your brother for helping me last night. Otherwise I could have been found sleeping somewhere in the corridor.”  I laughed at him while looking directly at Daivik, I could see how content he was. Although he did not smile but his eyes, they were literally talking to me. Manik frowned and then he seemed embarrassed, very.. very embarrassed. “Umm.. is it like that?” He asked looking down at Bruno. “Yes, it totally is.” I confirmed, smiling at him and then I put a hand on his hands. He looked at me in surprise and I raised my eyebrows to him indicating his brother. He understood my indication and stood up leaving Bruno on my lap and turned to face Daivik. Daivik’s eyes were still on me. Manik mumbled “am I allowed to say that I’m sorry bhai?” His head hung, I could say he was on the verge of breaking down. “ Accepted!” The devil just can’t smile. He stood there with his arms crossed and chin up with immense pride. This man..! How could someone look so perfect all the time? I was hating it. “Attention seeker!” I mumbled to myself. Manik was about to give him a hug but he turned immediately to face me as though he has heard me. “Lie down. I am asking Pratima ji to send your breakfast here.” His voice again took that icy cold form, but I swear last night his voice was a little warm, different. He was about to turn back when I mumbled “ Thank you for your hospitality Mr. Nagpati, I should get going now.” He turned and now he was furious. “You are not!” He uttered with immense confidence as if my staying here depends totally on his will and not mine. “S-sorry, b-but I have to.” I was stuttering like hell. God knows why he was this intimidating. He didn't even bother to answer me. “Manik, make her eat the breakfast first, by that time Dr. Hembram will be here. Let him check her up once again. If he allows then we’ll see what should be done. I'll be out for an hour or so” and with this he left with me being totally pissed!

“Your brother has some serious issues Manik. He needs a doctor not me!” I shouted. “Yeah, he has this totally dominating nature. He does go to a doctor also due to his poor anger management capabilities.” Manik surprised me as I couldn't help but ask “he does?” He looked up at me and said “yes he does, ever since our mother passed away.” Now I got to understand a little bit of that nightmare incident yesterday. He might miss his mother a lot. Manik was saying things but deep down he also seemed to be stuck with a different thought. “What’s wrong baby bear? All good?” I asked comforting him and he gave a weak smile. “I’ll miss you kiddo. You stay safe here.” He said still not looking at me. “Hey, it is not the matter, there is something else. Did you have a fight with Nina?” I was really concerned and he was surprised . If I was correct he seemed a little nervous. “N-no, no.. n-nothing like that.” He replied really fast, startling me. “Okay.. okay.. easy there big boy.” He looked at me and chuckled. “Let me go downstairs to bring you your breakfast. You rest here.” He stood up and left. I sat there with Bruno in my lap, looking outside the window. No doubt the mansion was old, and the scenic beauty outside was breathtaking. I could hear a faint rippling sound of water. There might be a river or a waterfall nearby. I left a sigh of satisfaction. Nature can heal anything.

I was totally mesmerized with the scenario outside. I did not even realize when I stood up and went to the veranda. It landed me to a view I might never forget. It was really cold out there and I couldn’t see everything clearly due to the cloudy weather but the greenery, the mountains, those tiny houses, curved roads and these deep woods were so soothing. The smell is so beautiful. I got the same smell when I was near Daivik last night. He smelt like woods. I closed my eyes and inhaled it as much as possible. It was intoxicating.

I got out of my dream as someone coughed quite loudly. It startled me and I immediately looked at the person behind it. “I am really sorry to startle you though..” I looked at the person, he wore a black suit and a sky blue shirt beneath it, with a black trouser. His complexion was fair and he looks quite like a nerd with those glasses. His eyes were dark black just like his hair. He stood at the door looking at me with an expression as if he is really impressed about something. “It’s totally fine Dr.Hembram" I smiled at him. “ You seem to enjoy the mountains a lot” he said while walking over to me. “Yes, it is so peaceful, the birds chirping, the greenery, the smell of the woods. I have a feeling that there is even a river or a waterfall nearby.” I looked at him expectantly. “There is one indeed and that’s beautiful.” He said looking at the view. “But what for? I am leaving today and I have no plans to come back here any soon.” I made a sad face and he chuckled. “ Sorry to hear about that and also sorry that I’ll be asking you to come inside now. It is quite cold here and also let’s check you up before  you leave.” I nod to his words and start moving towards the room.

We entered the room and I sat on the bed. He took a chair and sat just beside me. He held my hand for a  few seconds to check my pulse, he used his stethoscope as well. Then he again brought that pressure checking machine out of his briefcase. He asked me to show him my tongue. And finally it was done with. “ You seem totally fine Teressa. You can go home today but yes, please take rest and eat good food. I have prescribed few good vitamin supplements. Those will keep you as energetic as you are.” He chuckled while saying this and I couldn’t help but giggle a little. “ Thank you Dr. Hembram.” I said when he was putting everything back into his briefcase. He looked up at me when he was done, he smiled at me and said “call me Arjun, that’s what my friends call me.”  I smiled  back at him and said “well then Arjun you can call me Triss, that’s what my friends call me.”  He repeated my name, “Triss..” and stared at me for a while and then he handed me something “here, this is my card. Feel free to call me whenever you need a friend or a doctor for that matter.” I giggled again. "He really is a nice guy", I thought to myself.
