**Some angst, but it's nice at the end. This was honestly inspired by a one-shot I read but I can't remember where it was published or who wrote it and I feel terrible, so if you recognize it, let me know and I'll credit whoever it was who gave me the idea! I swear to god, I thought I published this like a week ago but I just saw it in my drafts while working on my backlog of requests and I was stunned. Enjoy!!**

Peter stared at the paper in his hands. He didn't... he didn't know what it was, really. He knew what it was, of course, but he didn't know what it was. What it meant. It would change things, that was for sure, and he didn't know how to bring it up. It was one of those bomb-like announcements.

Instead of dealing with it, Peter just shoved the paperwork back in his bag and shook it out of his head. This was supposed to be a good week.

"All packed?" Tony asked as the teen slid into the backseat of the car.

Peter nodded once very firmly. "Yep! I'm excited for team bonding!"

Tony gave Peter a smile - a genuine smile - and pulled him over to ruffle his hair. It was a familiar gesture, one Peter leaned into, and Tony put a kiss to Peter's hairline. Ever since May had gotten sick, the two men had gotten a lot closer, seeing as Tony and Pepper got legal custody over Peter. Peter had once accidentally called Tony 'dad' and, expecting to be embarrassed about the whole thing, had taken off into the city. Tony had followed after him and confided that he thought of Peter as a son himself, and the budding relationship had blossomed into a greater relationship - one as son and father.

Peter remembered the paper in his bag and tensed up for a moment. Tony felt the teen go rigid and he pulled away.

"You okay?"

"Peachy," Peter murmured.

The ride upstate to the compound was a long one, so Peter plugged in some headphones and soon fell asleep while music played softly in his ears. Tony laughed a little, quietly so he didn't disturb the boy, and pulled out his earbuds. Whenever Peter fell asleep with them in, he woke up complaining about the pain.

"He fall asleep?" Happy asked. Tony looked up at the driver.

"Yeah."

"Good, he's been having a hard time recently. Pep said he had some big test thing?"

Tony nodded, running his hands through Peter's curls absentmindedly. "He was doing some genetics screening because of May, you know?" Peter hadn't been sure he wanted to do it at first, but Tony and Pepper had been very supportive about the whole thing.

"Did everything come back okay?" Happy asked.

Tony shrugged. "The results haven't come back yet."

Tony, Happy, and Peter unloaded the car and headed into the compound. Peter was the first one through the doors so he took the brunt of the team's excited shouts. They had come down a day earlier, but Peter and Tony had stayed so Peter could finish the school week.

"Peter!" Steve hopped up from his spot by the door and ran to give the teen a hug. Peter laughed at the team's antics - it had only been a few days since he saw them all and he told them all such.

"We know," Natasha said, joining in on the hug.

"We just missed your adorable face."

At the sound of Bucky's voice, Peter startled a little, jumping back and away from the others. He didn't mean to, he was just a little jumpy. It was too much. Too much. Too bright. Too-
