Chapter 39: The Girl Who Stole My Heart

"And then there's this girl with beautiful (h/c) hair that dances around whenever she swivels. Her appearance is just a bonus though. Her personality and ability to manipulate any form of liquid are what makes me attracted to her," Todoroki described the girl he loves to his mother. Rei pleasantly gazed at her son who, for once, was smiling.

"Was she the one you battled with during the Sports Festival?" She asked.

"Yes. Even though I ended up using my left side... She did that all to save me" His words trailed off.

Rei slowly clutched her son's hand and spoke, "It's okay to use your left side, Shouto. It's not anyone else but your's. Ice and Fire are what define you. You can't heavily depend on your right side alone because one day you will find that Fire is also an important asset, just like how plants can't live without the warmth of the sun."

Todoroki squeezed his mother's icy hand with uncertainty and agitation. There was truth in her words of encouragement, making him feel more inclined to use his fire. Just then, his ringtone pierced the surrounding, breaking the peaceful moment.

"Oh, Nee-chan. What's wrong?" It took him less than a second to react when he heard your name.

"Y/N??? Okay, i'm coming right now," With that he ended the call. Rei knew that something must've happened to you and so she only nodded, acknowledging his departure.

Though it was a brief meeting, she was relieved to see that Todoroki had another reason to live besides vengeance that fuelled his hatred for his father. She was beyond grateful for your existence even though she hadn't met you in person.

"Y/N!!!" Todoroki yelled as the door to Fuyumi's bedroom slid open.

Your eyes darted towards him. Even though you had promised to not breakdown, it was impossible after the traumatic experience of coming face to face with the villain who killed your mom. And to make matters worse, Kaminari was involved in it for God knows why.

He scrambled next to you and embraced your shivering body as Fuyumi silently watched his little brother held you in his arms from a far. She too was worried when she found you all sunken and sallow on her doorstep. She offered tea and consoled you but nothing seemed to ease your anxiety until Todoroki came.

"Are you okay?" He asked in between laboured breathings. You buried your face into his chest and shook. Seeing this, Fuyumi decided that it was best to leave the two of you alone. She exited quietly while you continued to tremble as if you were on the edge of a building, not wanting to let go of the railings.

"It's okay, i'm here," he cooed as he rubbed your back in circles.

It took an hour or so before you could regain composure and finally explained what just happened. From the very beginning when your mother was murdered, to your encounter with the lightning quirk villain and Kaminari. Every word produced was accompanied by strained, heavy breathing as Todoroki's eyes gradually widened. The situation was too complex considering how Kaminari was part of it.

"Maybe ... maybe that's why Aizawa was so hard on him," you murmured. Part of you still didn't want to accept that your own friend attempted to kill you. He led you to his trap, planning everything so cautiously from the start without arousing your suspicion. You trusted him and treated him like a little brother, how could you ever look at him the way you used to again.

Todoroki gritted his teeth and got on his feet instantly. As he stomped towards the door, you seized his wrist, "Where are you going?!"

"Isn't it obvious?! I'm going to kill that bastard, Kaminari," he growled.

"No!"

"What are you saying? You can't let an animal like that run free,"

"I know! But .. please. I don't think it's the right time. Besides, that villain might still be there with him. He's not an easy opponent to deal with,"

He stared into your eyes, shifting from one to the other. The desperation and anguish written on your face softened his soul, allowing him to think more rationally. With an exhale, he sat back down again.

"Alright, I understand. Y/N, stay here with me tonight. I will keep you safe, I promise"

Your shoulders jolted upon hearing those words that carried so much fidelity. It almost made your heart ache for ever treating Todoroki like a second option. How could he love someone while knowing that the feeling was unrequited. How could he still care for you this much without reluctance.

'How...?'

Even so, you still wanted to repay his kindness and the love he showered you with.

"Wait here for a moment, I'll prepare the guest room for you-"

Before he could stand up completely, your hand tugged his sleeves, pulling him down to where he was. This startled him for a moment as he had never received such assertive behaviour from you.

"I want,, to be with you.." you whispered under your breath. His lips slowly parted in bewilderment.

"Y/N..."

"T-Todoroki, can i sleep with you tonight?"
