~3rd POV~

Wind soared across the sky, picking up harshly as it streaked and screamed. Ex pondered for a moment, tired eyes scanning the outside world. He stood alone in the hot and dry air as he pulled his helmet off his head. His long white hair followed the upwards motion, frizz reacting from the humidity. Rain was definitely headed straight towards him, darkening clouds coming in from what seemed like the perfect day not five minutes ago. He couldn't help but look back at his 'house'. A somewhat narrow hole in the ground at best, a pile of twigs and brush badly covering the entrance to a cave at worst. It definitely would not survive the night, at least not the bit above ground.

'Can't have shit in Detroit,' Ex shrugged. He harshly kicked at the ground as he turned to head back underground with a grimace. Of course the one day he finally planned to do something, his parade was rained on. Literally. The inside of his house was cold and surprisingly damp despite the entire thing being made of rocks. It was better than nothing, shelter was shelter. Ex took the thin blanket off of his ground mattress and wrapped it back around his shoulders then flopped down and curled into himself. Idly, he listened to the often drips of water that echoed across his tiny cave. He knew rain was usually a cause for great excitement across the server, but he just couldn't keep up with the hype, the rain only made him feel sleepy for some reason. A chilled wind crept in from every crack in the walls and low ceiling.

It was all silent for a few moments, that is until his front door was swung open. By wind, or by some other force, Ex wasn't sure. All he knew was that he now had a guest that he wasn't prepared for. At least he was decent. A clunk of metal stepped into the room, hastily sealing the wooden door behind him from the elements.

"Don't say anything. I don't want to be here either," Hels snarled, practically throwing his armor onto the ground. The pieces landed with clangs against the stone and left the knight in only a tight fitting T-Shirt and what looked to be pajama pants. Both articles were partially soaked.

"Welcome home darling," Ex responded with bitter enthusiasm at the intrusion. "Sure, just barge right in and make yourself at home. Nothing is wrong with that."

"I said don't talk to me."

"I don't care," was shot back immediately. The two glared for a moment. "You can't just walk into my cave and not talk to me. Actually, I'd prefer if you hadn't just walked in at all."

Hels rolled his eyes. "Well I'm not leaving. It's practically a hurricane out there."

"It's just some rain, nothing too bad," As if on que, the wind from outside beat against the walls wherever ever it could get a hold. A low rumble erupted and growled through every inch of breathing space.

"I'm not afraid."

"Of rain? I never said you were." The two paused, silence coating the room aside from the drips of rainwater that fell through cracks in the ceiling. The tension was so thick you probably couldn't make a dent in it with a knife. Ex stayed still, knees tucked into his chest on his mattress as he watched Hels curiously. "Can you le-"

"This place is a dump." The knight interrupted, busying himself with glaring at his surroundings. "How are you not constantly sick? Look at all this dust! It wouldn't do any bad to clean and maybe patch the place up a bit,"

Ex rolled his eyes and finally moved, slowly getting to his feet. If he was already in a shitty mood before the rain started, Hels was giving him a migraine. "Sorry mom, I'll fix it now," with that, the evil clone reached towards the crafting bench lying against the wall, never breaking eye contact with Hels as he used his forearm to swipe everything on its surface onto the floor. The assortment of half dead tools and such clattered to the ground all around their feet.  "Better?"

"No-"

"Good." Hels' face contorted distastefully. "Now are you only here to insult my home? Yours wasn't much better last I checked."

Ex knew Hels wanted to spit back another snarky comment, but he was interrupted as a loud clap of thunder practically knocked on the front door, shaking Ex's rib cage with an intensity that was not pleasant. Hels silenced whatever insult he was brewing, instead just silently walking towards the corner and sitting down on the cold floor.

"Look, just drop it. I'll only be here until the storm is over so just forget about me."

'I'm not sitting in silence with you for possibly the next few hours-' Ex thought to himself. With a deep sigh, he approached the sulking knight and grabbed his arm, dragging him at least towards the mattress. "Dont just sit on the floor, it's going to hurt after awhile." Ex felt personally responsible if Hels suffered through this storm alone, though he felt like he would have already known if the knight was put off by rain.

Hels glared, almost toddler like, but still did as he was told. Ex nearly laughed at this. Not even two minutes ago Hels had been bitching and whining but now he seemed so small.  Hels simply looked away as Ex sat down next to him, so close their shoulders were touching. The clone threw the thin blanket over both their outstretched legs and leaned back against the wall with another sigh.

"...I didn't know where else to go," Was stated after such a long silence and so quietly that Ex wasn't even sure he had heard it. "I'm afraid. I feel so alone." Hels said, even quieter.

Ex couldn't find the words. Something about that statement just made him feel off. Perhaps because of how much it resonated with him. Having nowhere to go, having the mindset of nobody wanting him. Suddenly it snapped; the rain wasn't what Hels was afraid of. He wasn't quite sure what the other wanted, but he could take a pretty accurate guess. Ex took the others hand in his, finally making him look up. He offered nothing but a patient smile. That seemed like the right decision. Hels let out an exaggerated breath and visibly relaxed his tensed muscles. He leaned, resting his head on Ex's shoulder after a few cautious moments of hesitation.

Ex giggled. "I di-"

"Shut up. Don't say it."

'There's the Hels I know,'  Despite how sour his mood had been, Ex smiled and stared at the other with a suddenly softened gaze. Hels had his bad qualities, like being stubborn, somewhat manipulative, arrogant, impulsive, sure. But that's to be expected. Ex knew better than anyone that he probably couldn't help it. He knew how it felt to be nothing more than an evil recreation, he vividly remembered all those nights he only wanted to scream and cry and break everything in his sight. Was that how Hels was feeling when he walked in?

The sound of the rain washed over them both. Ex wrapped his arms around the other, the only other present being who knew how it felt to be ostracized for an existence he didn't ask for. Ex wanted to go out today, wanted to find something new to temporarily fill empty and meaningless time, but this was better. Nothing was spoken, but that night a mutual understanding was reached.

You're not alone. I'm here.
