Over a hundred years ago after Skyler Salvatore and her brothers Damon and Stefan were turned by Katherine Pierce, Skyler fled Mystic Falls only to meet the Mikaelson family decades later. She soon became apart of the Mikaelson family officially after marrying her soulmate, Kol Mikaelson, she was happy to be rid of the Salvatore name however when Klaus catches word that there's a new doppelgänger in Mystic Falls, Skyler must use the Salvatore name again to get on her brothers good side in order to help break the Sun and Moon Curse.
