The fresh air and bright sun of October settled in swiftly, bringing with it the gratitude of every student at Hogwarts. The quidditch team captain, Cassia Starling (a 7th year seeker), had just put out the information about tryouts for the team in the Slytherin common room, where (Y/N) and her friends were currently studying for their upcoming Transfigurations quiz.

After seeing her, (Y/N) stood up quickly to check it: they were looking for a keeper, one chaser, and one beater, and it would take place next Monday at 5, right after lunch. (Y/N) mentally celebrated, trying to keep her composure.

She grabbed the flyer and placed it on top of the table in front of Sam and Louis, who were looking at her with expectant eyes. "You guys should try out too. Sam, you have a chaser complexion, and Louis, you could be beater." She suggested.

"No thanks, I'm not into sports." Sam said, dismissing (Y/N) and returning her attention to the book on her lap: an Analysis on Werewolves.

"And I'd much prefer being chaser. I'm faster in the broom than stronger in the arms". Said Louis, smiling at the (Y/H/C) haired girl.

"Then let's try out, you and me Louis. It's on Monday, after eating. You have a Comet, right?".

The two kept talking about try outs for hours, which left Sam bored and even more uninterested on the sport.

"Finally!" James ran to the Gryffindor quidditch team captain: Roan Quilt, as he put up the announcement on the Gryffindor announcement board. James had been waiting years for this. It was on Monday, 30 minutes after lunch, and there were free spots for 1 chaser and 1 beater.

He slammed it down in front of Sirius, who picked it up cautiously and scanned over the paper. Remus and Peter were completely uninterested in James' passion for sports, they much preferred being spectators in the stands that occasionally cheered out of school spirit.

"Wait, maybe I should try out for beater. My dad used to say I had strong arms," said Sirius.

James nodded happily, feeling like he could run 3 laps around the common room out of pure excitement, especially because one of his best friends would most likely be on the Quidditch team with him. Both James and (Y/N) couldn't be more excited; the difference was that James expressed his excitement with everyone, while (Y/N) tried to hide it.

During breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Regulus sat besides her, and he didn't really eat a lot. (Y/N) worried for him; she felt like she had a responsibility to take care of him. Probably because he had to endure Sirius at home, we're both victims of his annoyingness, she thought. When she couldn't sleep, she often thought about asking Sam and Louis to include him in their small group.

Overall, second year proved to be a major improvement from first year in all possible ways. For instance, her grades had gone up tremendously, as she had stopped daydreaming and staring at boys. She remembered the books she read during the summer, the classes her grandmother had given her, and one time she even corrected the History of Magic professor: a ghost named Mr. Binns.

Due to this, she had become quite arrogant when it came to academic achievements and often poured her heart and soul into every assignment, not because she wanted to learn but because it felt good to be better than everyone else. Three days later, Monday finally arrived. During breakfast, she almost didn't eat, too busy studying Quidditch techniques so she could replicate them during tryouts, but Louis managed to sneak some food onto her plate.
