Friday, December 24th: Marauders Point of View

James' paper plane landed in Remus' lap. Peter had taught them how to fold paper into different shapes, and James had been making little airplanes with different doodles on them, only to then throw it to one of the marauders.

It had been endearing at first but now it was just annoying and it made Remus just want to make it into a ball and throw it towards them. He normally wasn't so aggressive, but the next day would be a full moon.

The reasons behind his emotions variated, the first would be that the nature of the wolf inside him was naturally aggressive. And another reason was that due to his "condition", he would have to pass the day after Christmas (and the next day too) in the Shrieking Shack.

Sirius, James, and Peter had noticed these mood swings, and one day (2 or 3 weeks ago approximately) the 3 of them talked about it and tried to come up with the answer to what was happening to Remus.

First, it had been a joke between them when Peter suggested it. Because, how would their friend, who folded his clothes so neatly and always had a solution to any of their problems, be a blood-thirsty werewolf?

It didn't make sense but at the same time it did, so one night they escaped to the astronomy tower, checking all of the nights Remus had gone to "take care of his sick mother" and they all matched in one thing.

They all fell on a full moon.

Whenever they wanted to ask him about it, his big eyes and sandy blonde hair made them feel bad and retreat immediately. That leads us here, the 4 of them sitting in their shared dorm while James threw paper planes and Peter practiced spells.

It was a comfortable silence, the 4 Gryffindors were planning to exchange their presents in the morning, Christmas spirits and all. James wondered if right now would be a good time to question Remus about his supposed secret since they were all happy, and even better: that way Remus could get everything off his chest. And before he could even think about it properly, the words had already been pronounced.

"Remus, are you a werewolf?" Remus' head looked over to James, his cheeks and tip of his nose of a scarlet red. If any of the boys sitting next to him had any doubt, it had dissipated due to the embarrassed and trembling frame of the blonde-haired boy.

"No!" The harsh tone of his voice impressed him. He coughed awkwardly before adding, "I mean- why would you think that?"

Peter shook his head and placed a hand on Remus' shoulder as a sign of support, "We weren't really going to ask you today, but well... It's that you always disappear with different excuses that don't make sense and- and we checked and they all fell in the full moon."

"And you always come back with new and harsher scars. You worry us, Remus," said Sirius, the tone of his voice kind but to Remus it sounded like pity or even terror. The mere thought of his own friends being afraid of him was horrible and it made a chill traveling from his spine to the back of his neck, and then he thought about the headmaster.

What would he say? Would he expel him? Would he yell at him and then expose his secret to the school? He probably wouldn't, he wasn't evil. Remus' mind was having all kinds of self-destructive thoughts, his pale hands bringing themselves to his face, hiding between them.

James and Sirius exchanged looks, not knowing what to do or say at the sight of their friend. Peter had retracted his hand back to his sides and asked with a shaky voice. "Remus? So- are you a werewolf?"
