Puberty hit (Y/N) in the stomach, made her fall down and then kicked her again several times. Her body had changed tremendously during the summer, she had gained weight not only in her stomach but also on her thighs. chest, and hips.

Pimples and acne started to form on her face, and some days her hair would be so messy it resembled a bird nest. She knew what was happening to her: she was becoming a teen, but that didn't make it any less annoying. The hormonal changes were exhausting, and her clothes didn't fit, and the ones that did were too tight, and well don't get me started with that time of the month.

She had been going to Diagon Alley every day for this week to buy Salem enough cat food for the rest of the year and to buy her supplies. There, she'd meet with Louis and Leo (Sam was only able to go one day, her muggle parents were too busy to take her every day), and the 3 of them would spend the whole day there.

Regulus got invited too, but he told everyone he wouldn't be able to make it. (Y/N) wondered if he was ashamed of his parents, or of his brother (she would be if she had Sirius as a brother). But aside from that, the summer had been pretty average and boring. As every year, an owl arrived and notified her of when the next term would be starting.

Station 9 and 3/4 was full of all kinds of people, muggles, wizards, and a combination of both accompanying their kids and helping them carry their bags.

(Y/N) wondered how it would be to there with her parents, or with anyone she considered a parental figure at all. Her grandma was too busy with work to even spare a glance her way, but she was already used to it, or that was what she told herself to avoid thinking about it.

Everyone turned their heads when the Hogwarts Express entered the station, most parents saying goodbye to their children with a kiss on the cheek and a hug.

She moved gracefully through the crowd as the train came to a stop and most kids boarded it as fast as they could, (Y/N) included. After getting inside (after pushing one or two first years) she ran across the halls trying to find an empty compartment, her trunk, and Salem trailing behind her.

Sam was the first not unknown person she saw, the girl was sitting sideways, trying to stop people from entering the compartment.

"Hey, are these seats taken?" (Y/N) smiled, sitting down in front of the dark-skinned girl. When both girls saw each other, their lips curled upwards, becoming a grin.

"Merlin, what happened to you?" Sam asked as she peeled off the package of muggle chocolate.

(Y/N) raised an eyebrow, "Nothing? What happened to you?"

"No- I mean, wow! I like the new look, it fits you." Sam started, being interrupted by someone entering the compartment. "Regulus! Hey."

The boy waved, (Y/N) noticed how sharp (and kind of sick) his features were, purple eye bags under his eyes, his cheekbones were even more defined than last year, and of course, he had gotten taller. Some centimeters more and he would be passing Louis.

The boy slumped down in the seat besides (Y/N) with a sigh. "Hello to you too," The girl said.

"Sorry. I'm just kind of distracted, but still happy to see you two."

Sam chuckled, "We're happy to see you as well," She took a bite of her chocolate before continuing, "But what's with the emo kid look?"

Regulus brought his hands to his face to hide his blush. "Emo kid? What even is that? Whatever it is, I'm not that, okay?"

(Y/N) laughed and put a hand on his shoulder, "Don't get too defensive, she was kidding."

Regulus scoffed, "Yeah, right. Very funny Sam."

"Thank you, I try." She smirked.

"Hello, people! Your favorite person," Louis did a reverence when he entered the compartment, "Has arrived."

"Sit down or you're going to fall when the train starts moving." (Y/N) chuckled. The boy turned to look at her just as the train started to move, and not only did his eyes almost go out of his sockets but he also fell on top of Sam.

"Ew, ew! Get off me!" The girl scrambled, trying to push the boy away from her. (Y/N) was laughing so much she felt tears accumulating in her eyes.

"Merlin, what have I walked into?" Leo joked, sitting beside Regulus.

Louis gained his balance again and moved to sit next to Sam. He scratched his neck with a cheeky grin, "Sorry."

The ride was uneventful after that, the 5 four years talking about lots of things, like the new swear words they discovered, how much each of them had changed over the summer, and if they'd done the homework. They didn't.

When the Hogwarts Express stopped after some time, everyone got down and Hagrid guided the 1st years to the boats. The start-of-term feast was something (Y/N) always looked forward to.

And this year was no different, as soon as everyone was seated she was biting her nails waiting for Dumbledore to start with his annual speech.

"Welcome, everyone to a new year at Hogwarts. Before we start eating, I must remind you the rules: it is absolutely forbidden to go to the, er well, forbidden forest. Anyone who disobeys this rule will have to face severe punishment, even expulsion. Now, about the Yule ball, reminder that only 4th years and upper are allowed to attend."

The ball was something (Y/N) was the most excited about, after overhearing two girls talking about how much they had liked to attend back in her second year.

Dumbledore paused for some seconds, waiting for the whispers of the students to quiet down. "And finally, the curfew has been established to 10 pm. If a prefect catches you after 10 out of your common room, they have the power to assign detention. Have a great year everyone, you may start eating!"

The headmaster sat down, most kids started to dig on the different kinds of food that were offered.

Sirius was one of these kids, he ate so fast it almost seemed he thought that someone would steal or take away his food. (Y/N) found this incredibly repulsive, the way a little bit of the sauce was dripping from the corners of his mouth.

"Regulus, do your parents not teach your brother any proper education?" She had asked the boy, who shrugged and then continued eating.

It was fun to be with them again, the evenings at Hogsmeades seemed dull compared to this: being below the enchanted sky, with floating candles around them and the warmth of laughing with her friends.
