It seemed like everything was happening fast, too fast. (Y/N) didn't even have time to process the last month of the year before the arrangements for the Yule Ball began. Said ball would take place at 8 pm on Christmas Eve and finish at midnight, on Christmas. A lot of mail was delivered during breakfast, most of them being boxes that contained dress robes.

Louis had offered herself to do everyone's hair, though Regulus was very against it: he didn't like having his hair touched, which made sense considering that his hair was always under a coat of gel that stopped any strands from sticking out. Add him a pair of round glasses and he would look like a stereotypical nerd from muggle movies.

(Y/N) was by far the most excited one of her friend group, Louis being a close second. The two always chatted about their high expectations, and during the rehearsals to learn how to waltz they had paired up. That class had been taught by Professor Slughorn since he was the Slytherin head of the house. The classroom had been filled with laughter when the professor almost fell on top of Filch.

Later that day, Leo had given (Y/N) important news: he had overheard Priya say to her friend that she didn't have a date for the Ball yet. Of course, this had been weeks ago but (Y/N) had just gathered the courage to ask her. But the moment she saw her, laughing and surrounded by all of her friends, all that courage dissipated into the cold December air.

But just admiring the girl from afar was enough for her.

Or so she thought because as she was getting her hair done by Louis, mere hours before the Ball would start, she regretted not asking her crush when she had the chance. Maybe she too would be going with her friends instead of with someone, right? Maybe she could still get a dance!

Though the idea of actually making the skin-to-skin contact made her nervous, it was almost like she couldn't wrap her head around it.

"Okay, and we're done!" Louis exclaimed, grabbing Regulus' two-way mirror the girl had gifted him the year prior and giving it to the girl, who admired her appearance. Her (Y/H/C) hair was let down, with two light blue clips on each side of her head. It wasn't anything too complicated or fancy but it made her look beautiful.

After everyone got their hairstyles done ((Y/N) was the only one that let Louis touch her hair), the 3 boys went to their dorms to change into their dress robes; the 5 of them agreed to meet up in the common room.

The girls' dorm was silent until Sam came out of the bathroom with her dress: it was a short, white dress with puffy, lacy sleeves. The design was something (Y/N) had never seen before and it amazed her, it had different-sized butterflies in the skirt and chest area.

"Wow! You look amazing, Sam." (Y/N) grinned, getting closer to her friend.

"Thanks, my mom got it for me in a muggle store. She said it reminded her of me," The girl smiled back. "But that's whatever. Your turn, go change."

Her dress was something simple, it was a pastel blue. The chest part was a stretchy fabric with spaghetti straps, and the skirt was just a silky fabric. Though, it had another layer of a longer skirt that was just lace with daisies, probably sewed by hand.

Whenever she twirled, the lace skirt moved with her too. It had been so long since she felt so pretty, and to be honest the look Sam gave her when she came out of the bathroom made her feel like she was on top of the world.

The two girls gave each other the finishing details, such as fixing the static their hair got when changing or that type of minimal details. (Y/N) was so excited while going down the stairs that she almost tripped and fell.
