October 31, 1981

Recently, you had developed a love for Halloween. During your years at Hogwarts, you hadn't really spared the holiday a second thought, but after seeing all of the little kids dressed up and asking for candy, it had grown on you.

Ever since Sirius had found out about the holiday, he immediately loved it. It was the perfect excuse to be dramatic, to dress up, to party. And the best part was his friends, who always did matching costumes and gave out candy to kids in the street.

This year, however, Lily and James wanted some alone time to take care of their kid, Harry. He was the cutest. Remus also couldn't attend, since it was a full moon that night. Hell, even Regulus had plans!

So that's why Sirius and you decided to go out to a romantic restaurant. He had bought you a dress and you had bought him a new leather jacket (he hated suits) and that leads us to tonight.

You had just finished getting ready, and he was waiting in the doorway with a cheesy smile on his lips. "You look great."

You smile back, taking his hand. "As do you."

"Shall we?" He asks, keys tingling. You nod and he leads you outside.

The motorcycle he bought recently stood proudly in the driveway. You suspected this motorcycle was Sirius' most prized possession. He got in the motorcycle and then helped you to do the same.

"Please go slow." You could ride on this vehicle a thousand times and you still wouldn't be able to be completely comfortable in it.

Sirius laughs, "I promise."

But you know he won't. He always accelerates so you have to hold onto his waist and hide your face on his neck. And to be completely honest, you didn't mind. In fact, you loved it.

"Ready?" He asks and you reply with a quick yes. "Hold on tight."

As soon as he turned it on, the motorcycle lifted off the ground. Thanks to the night sky, the motorcycle passed unnoticed by nearby muggles.

And halfway through, Sirius started to go faster. "Slower." You urge, hands gripping onto the leather on his waist.

He doesn't have time to slow down because the restaurant is already in front of you. Due to the Wizarding War, most wizard restaurants had been closed or were hastily abandoned. But this one was open tonight.

Tonight was an exception to the hurt and disgrace the war brought.

A break, you could say.

The restaurant was beautifully illuminated, with strings of lights hanging from the trees and several lamps hung from the ceiling. From inside, chatter, laughter, and the sound of classical music could be heard.

As soon as they saw you, a waiter came out of the building and asked them for a reservation. Sirius quickly replied and they let you in.

The table was already set up, and it was on the best spot: far enough from the band so the music wouldn't be too loud, but close enough to hear it and enjoy it. The illumination was beautiful, soft enough so the vibe was a more romantic and sensual one.

"Welcome," A waiter smiled. "What can I help you with today?"

Sirius and you ordered your food and it soon arrived at your table. It looked delicious.

"You look beautiful." You told him, grinning like a lovesick fool. Sometimes, you felt like that.

After all this time, you could still make him blush, roll his eyes and try to hide his smile. "It's a bit sad how you reduce to a pretty face." He pouts jokingly.

"Like you don't." You roll your eyes, "That's why you liked me in the first place."

"That's not true. I liked you because you beat me in my own game."

"I guess I did, didn't I?"

"And because you're clever, kind, responsible, charming, adventurous, fierce. And well, of course, beautiful."

"I didn't think responsibility turned you on."

"What can I say? I have a thing for nerds."

And then the conversation shifted to more mundane things, like the cat across the street that just had kittens and how you should adopt one, how you had applied for a professor job in Hogwarts, how Regulus was going out more, bla bla bla.

But then Sirius realized something.

It was the best moment of the night, he confirmed that after seeing your head move along the music with grace. You were happy.

With subtle movements, his long fingers moved to his pants' pockets and felt the outline of the velvet box.

But as with everything in both your lives, something just had to happen right that moment. Before he could take out the ring, before he could kneel before you, before he could profess his undying love for you, and before he could ask you to marry him.

An owl rushed to Sirius, flapping its wings alarmingly. Almost immediately, Sirius recognized who the owner was: Dumbledore's.

"What is it?" You ask with concern after seeing the owl. "Did something happen?"

Sirius gulps and nods his head, "He was seen near Godric's Hollow." He stood up, desperate to get out of the restaurant. "I have to go."

He felt the walls closing in on him. His lungs didn't work and he could hear his own heartbeat ringing in his ears.

You too stood up, and left some galleons of the table, probably way more than the bill was. "Let's go."

He shook his head, "You should stay here. We don't know how many of his people are with him and how long will Dumbledore take to arrive."

"Please, (Y/N)." He begs, "I don't want you to get harmed. I know you're capable of everything and anything, but just do this for me."

You hug him for 5 seconds and then separate, "I love you."

"I love you too." He cups your face. "I promise I'll come back before you know it."

Any words of protest died in your throat after seeing his furrowed eyebrows and troubled breathing. You sigh, "Please be alright."

"Of course." He smiles, though it came out crooked. "I always am."

He kissed you once, gently, and though you tried to ignore it, there was something mournful in the brush of his lips.
