I began writing this story nearly four years ago, right on my sixteenth birthday. I'd felt unsatisfied with how Ninjago Season 7: Hands of Time had turned out, and I felt that I could write something better, if not more enjoyable. I'd written a short story starring Cole before, so I felt confident in my abilities to make a complete, epic, novel-length Ninjago story.
Maybe I'd felt too confident. It ended up becoming a four-year project, reaching up to over 1,000 pages long.
You might like it. It's got a bunch of action and adventure with some magical aspects, but I also focused a lot on character development meant to pay off in the end. It's got some romance if you like ships. It's got plenty of angst, but also some jokes. It can be slow in some parts, but I wanted to make it feel like a genuine season of Ninjago.
Tell me if I did a good job or not.
It was really my siblings and friends who kept this story alive. I love them all for their encouragement and excitement at every new chapter. Some even made fanart, much to my delight. They made writing Roots of Earth a joy to look forward to every day.
