When Jules made it back home she couldn't contain the smile on her face, as she and Brett finally kissed and she couldn't even find words to describe it. Her heart felt like it was doing flips and the warmth of her cheeks wouldn't leave her.
Her smile fell however, when she found her Mom sitting in the kitchen quietly. "Mom, are you okay." She asks her, putting her hand in her Moms shoulder. "We'll talk when Scott gets here." Melissa tells her in a monotone voice. Sooner or later, Scott made his way through the door.
"Hey, sorry I'm back so late. I was closing up the Animal Clinic. I got more hours to earn a little extra..." He begins slowly realizing Melissa had found the stash of money hidden under his bed. "...money."
"How much more did you need?" She asks him standing up for her chair. "This is payment from the dead pool. I found it in Garrett's locker." He tells her. "This belongs to Derek? So you're just keeping it safe for him in a gym bag underneath your bed?" Melissa asks him—Jules standing in the corner not knowing what to say as she didn't even know about the money either.
"How long have you had it?" She asks him. "Too long." Says Scott looking down in disappointment . "You know you have to give it back?" Melissa tells him.
"I was going to." He answers her. "Do I want to know why you haven't?" She asks him—Jules finally stepping up. "Well isn't it obvious Mom?." Jules says walking closer to them. "It's because of you." She tells her.
"Me? You mean because we've been struggling a little?" Melissa asks her. "Mom, we've been struggling a lot, we notice these things even if we don't talk about them." Jules tells her. "Scott...Jules, you can save people's lives. But you cannot save them from life. Life is full of struggles."
"But it doesn't have to be." Scott interrupts.
"Honey."
"Do you know what just one of these can do? This gets us a new roof. And this pays for Stiles' MRI. This pays for Eichen House. And this one means you don't have to work the double shift at the hospital and come home totally exhausted." Scott tells her as he grabs stack of the cash—Melissa gulping as she grabs another stack. "What about this one." She says showing them the stack covered in blood.
Jules and Scott were left not knowing what to say. Melissa smiled at how much her kids worried about her. "You have to give the money back, we may be struggling but as long as we're a family we can get through this." Melissa tells them as she brings them in for a hug with Jules and Scott both laying their heads on her shoulders. "You two seriously need to get some sleep, you have an early morning practice tomorrow remember." She tells them pulling away and patting their heads even though Scott was taller than her.
"You know we love you right?" Scott asks her. "Of course I do, I love you both, you don't need to worry about me okay? Now go get some sleep." She tells them pushing them up towards their room.
