Summary: Evie is stopped by a roadblock and realizes what's going when she sees a DEA truck.

A/N - Can we just agree that any man in a bulletproof vest is sexy? And yes, this title is taken from a Pierce the Veil song. It's not based on it. I just liked the title.

Evie was on the way home when she was stopped at a road block.

"Hola señora."

"What's happened?"

"I'm afraid you'll have to turn around." Down the hill, Evie could see trucks and police cars, along with an ambulance.

A large DEA truck drove past them and it dawned on her what was happening.

"Oh my god." She got out of the car.

"Señora, I'll have to ask you to get back in your car."

"No, you don't understand. My boyfriend works for the DEA. Javier Peña. Is he here?" She started to walk past him, but he grabbed her.

"Please miss, get back in your car."

Evie narrowed her eyes at him. "Where's Carrillo? I demand to speak to him!"

A voice came over the soldier's radio. It was in Spanish but she managed to catch two words: DEA and herido.

Injured.

Someone from the DEA was injured.

"Let me through!" Evie screamed, "Please, he could be hurt. I have to see Javi!" She grabbed the soldier's radio and said, "Horacio Carrillo! Get your ass down here now!"

The soldier grabbed the radio back from her shouting, "Perra loca!"

Evie's Spanish was rudimentary at best, but she was pretty sure he'd just called her a crazy bitch.

A minute later, Carrillo was getting out of his Jeep.

The soldier let Evie go and she ran to him. "Who's injured? Where's Javi?"

"Calm down. Get in and I'll take you to him."

They got in Carrillo's Jeep and drove down the road.

Evie's heart started beating quickly when she saw him standing there with Steve. Unharmed. She jumped out of the Jeep while it was still moving and ran over to him.

"Evie? What are you doing here?" he asked her.

She threw her arms around him. "I was so scared. I was on my way home and they stopped me and I saw a DEA truck. I was worried about you. They said someone had been hurt. And I thought..." Tears streamed down her cheeks, staining his bulletproof vest.

"She apparently attacked one of my men," Carrillo told them.

Steve laughed, trying to imagine the small brunette attacking anyone.

"Shhh, it's okay mi amor. I'm safe."

Evie knew what she was in for when they started dating. She pulled away, wiping her eyes with the palms of her hands. "Oh. I've ruined your vest," she whimpered.

Javier laughed and kissed her forehead. "They're just tears. It'll dry."

Evie was thankful it wasn't anything else. In fact, he looked rather good in a bulletproof vest as much as she hated to admit it.

Today, he was wearing her favorite red top that hugged his biceps and back whenever he moved.

She tried to shake the dirty thoughts from her head, but Javier was smiling at her. He knew exactly what was on her mind.

She grabbed onto the top of the vest and used it to pull Javier down for a kiss.

They weren't a PDA couple, but she needed to feel his lips on hers in this moment. She needed something to ground her.

Javier wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her into him.

She could feel the rise and fall of Javier's chest against hers. His hands strayed dangerously close to inappropriate areas.

Javier pulled back, giving her several pecks before pulling away completely.

Evie was panting lightly. She wanted nothing more than to pull that vest off and take him right then and there. Or maybe she'd make him keep it on.

"Go home," he told her, "I'm fine. Steve's fine. Everything's okay. I promise, mi amor."

Evie licked her lips and nodded. She could still taste Javier's lips on hers. The nicotine from the cigarettes he smoked. The sweat that had gathered on his face from the Colombian heat.

"Carrillo, take her back to her car."

"Will you be home tonight?"

"I'll call you from the office and let you know."

Carrillo put his hands on her shoulders and gently pulled her away from Javier.

They got in his Jeep and drove back up the hill to her car.

She gave the soldier from earlier a glare and got in her car. She put it in drive and slipped on her sunglasses that matched Javier's. Before she put it in reverse, she turned to the soldier, gave him a smug smile and flipped him off. She could hear Carrillo laughing over the sound of her engine as she backed up.
