Javi burst into the room.

It was a little girl's room and said little girl was cured up in the corner, shaking with fright.

"Fuck," he whispered, tucking his gun in his waistband. He carefully approached the little girl with his hands in front of him. "No te voy a hacer daño. Mi nombre es Javi (I'm not gonna hurt you. My name is Javi)."

The little girl sniffled and clutched her stuffed cat to her chest.

He pressed a button on his radio. "Guys, I got a little girl here."

"The rest of the house is clear. It looks like they cleared out of here and left her alone."

"Shit." Javi knelt down beside her. "¿Ese es tu gatito (Is that your kitty cat)?"

She nodded. "¿Cual es su nombre? (What's his name)?"

"Mr. Whiskers."

Javier chuckled. "Nombre apropiado para una gata (Appropriate name for a cat)."

"Are you here to take me to Papa?"

"No. Te quedarás con nosotros por un tiempo. ¿Tienes bolso o mochila? (No. You'll be staying with us for a little while. Do you have a bag or a backpack)?"

She nodded.

He held out a hand to her and helped her up. She picked up a small duffle bag and Javier helped her gather some things.

She was sad to be leaving most of her toys though.

"Oye, podemos venir a buscarlas más tarde, ¿de acuerdo? (Hey, we can come get them later, okay)?" Javier reassured her. He picked her bag up and put it on his shoulder. He grabbed a blanket and wrapped her in it before carrying her out to his Jeep.

It was strange to see Javier walking into the US Embassy with a small child in hand.

They walked past the board with the cartel members and she pointed to Pacho Herrera.

"Papa!"

"¿Pacho es tu papá (Pacho is your papa)?"

The little girl nodded excitedly.

One of the secretaries watched her while Javier figured out what to do with her. "Apparently she's Herrera's," he explained to the Ambassador.

"We can't allow a child to grow up in that environment."

"Ambassador, I'd like to take her in."

"Excuse me?"

"Let me take her. She obviously has an immediate attachment to me."

"Peña, you don't know the first thing about raising a child!"

"Isn't every new parent like that?"

The Ambassador sighed. "I'll see what I can do, but don't get your hopes up."

"Thank you." Javier made his way back to his office and found her coloring at his desk.

"Oh Agent Peña! She's such a sweetheart," the secretary said, "I'll leave you two to get better acquainted, but if you ever need someone to watch her I'd gladly do it." She kissed the little girl on the head and left.

Javier sat on his couch and his head fell back. A second later, a small body was crawling towards him.

The little girl climbed into his lap and laid her head on his chest.

Javier felt his heart melt as he wrapped his arms around her.

He needed to get her out of Colombia before Herrera realized she was gone, but then again he hadn't been seen in months so maybe he wasn't coming back her.

Javier looked down and noticed she was asleep. Javier pressed a kiss to her forehead and grabbed his jacket, draping it on her. His head fell back on the couch and he fell asleep.

Javier and his new daughter Alicia were headed back to Laredo. Alicia had officially become Javier's daughter a few months after she'd been "rescued" from the Cali Cartel.

She had spent most of her time at the Embassy or being looked after by someone who worked for the Embassy. Javier wasn't going to risk her safety.

He'd hired a private tutor for her to teach her English, but she still predominately spoke Spanish. But he'd sometimes hear one or two words in English.

Right now, she was staring out the window of the plane.

Javier quickly found out she was fascinated by everything. In the time she'd been with Pacho and his partners, she'd barely left her room. They'd kept her secluded away from the world, so she was very independent. But there were still sometimes where she'd wake up with nightmares and crawl into bed with him.

Chucho was surprised to say the least when he picked Javier up at the airport. There was his son hand-in-hand with a small girl. But Chucho could see how happy she made him.

Who knew it would take a little girl to make his son smile again?

"Dad!" Javier said, hugging his father, "Meet Alicia, your granddaughter."

"Alicia? You named her after your mother?" Chucho looked down at her.

"Hola, pequeña (Hello, little one)."

"Hello, sir," Alicia said.

Chucho laughed. "You don't have to call me sir, cariño (sweetheart)."

Alicia yawned.

"It's been a long day, Pops."

"Of course." Chucho picked Alicia up and grabbed her small bag.

Javier was happier than he had been in a long while.

Alicia's young life had been a rollercoaster. Losing her biological parents, being taken in by Pacho Herrera, being abandoned by her adoptive father, and then taken in by the man who had taken her adoptive father and his cartel down.

But her life was looking up.
