Summary: After a one-night stand, Steve and Javi's co-worker Anabelle finds herself knocked up.
Anabelle finished emptying her stomach for the fourth morning in row and stood up to brush her teeth. Her mind started going back over the past few months. It was only as she was rinsing her mouth that she realized something.
"FUCK!"
Anabelle threw on some pants and ran down to the Murphy's apartment.
Maybe Connie hadn't left for work yet.
Anabelle knocked on the door and thanked whatever god was listening when Connie answered the door. "Connie! I need your help!" Anabelle all but cried.
The blonde wrapped her arms around the other woman. "What's going on, sweetheart?"
"I think I'm pregnant."
Connie immediately slipped into nurse mode. "Okay. Have you taken a test at all?"
Anabelle shook her head.
"Okay, we'll go down to the store and get you one. Then we'll take you to clinic and get a blood test done to be sure."
They went to the store and got a few tests before going back to Anabelle's apartment. She didn't want Steve to accidentally walk in and see them since he knew Connie wasn't able to get pregnant.
"What if I just don't take them?" Anabelle asked.
Connie looked at her like she was insane. "Honey, if you're pregnant, your stomach is gonna start to get bigger."
Connie handed her the tests and Anabelle peed on each of the sticks before setting them on the counter.
Connie set a timer for two minutes and they waited. "Do you mind telling me how this happened?" Connie asked.
"Connie, you're a nurse! You know how it happens!"
"I meant...do you know who the father is?"
Anabelle finally broke down. "It's Javi's!"
"Javi? As in our Javi? Javier Peña?"
"We were drunk and I was wearing my favorite red dress and...god, I'm so stupid!"
The timer went off and Anabelle checked the sticks against the instructions.
"What? What is it?" Connie asked.
"Shit."
Anabelle managed to keep her secret for a good month.
Connie kept pestering her to tell Javier before something happened.
"Escobar's on the move. We gotta go now!" Javier said.
Carrillo nodded and said, "I'll round up the guys up. Murphy, Peña, you're with me."
Anabelle looked at Carrillo and flicked her eyes down to her stomach and he nodded. She knew Noonan had only informed those who needed to know and Carrillo had children of his own, so he understood that she didn't want to risk the life of her unborn child.
"Woodward, stay here and provide support."
"No, Ana deserves to be on this raid. It was her intel in the first place," Steve argued.
"Steve, it's fine. Really. I don't mind..." Anabelle told him.
"Steve's right. Without her, we wouldn't have this lead," Javier agreed.
"Javi, let it go! You're going to lose him if you stay here and argue."
Javier looked at her. "Why aren't you putting up a fight? You've been by our side since the beginning, so what changed?"
"Javi, please just go!"
"No! Not until you tell me what's going on with you."
"Javi, please...I..."
"Ana, please just tell me!"
"I'M PREGNANT!"
The base went quiet and all she could hear was the sound of her heart thundering in her ears.
"You're what?" Javier asked, so softly she almost didn't hear him.
"I'm pregnant, Javi. We can talk about this later. Now, please. Just go."
Javi looked down at her still flat stomach before grabbing his gun and his tac vest. He was gonna kill this son of a bitch and make the world a better place for that baby.
Around nine o'clock, someone knocked at Anabelle's door. She didn't need to look to know it was Javier. "Hey," she said.
"Hey," he echoed.
Anabelle moved aside and let him come in.
He set a small bag on her kitchen table.
"Did you get him?"
Javier rubbed the back of his neck. "Um, no. He was there, but his Sicarios put up a pretty good fight that let him get away."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
There was an awkward silence.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Javier asked, "It's mine, isn't it?"
"Yes, it's yours Javi and I didn't tell you because I know you. You ran from Lorraine, so I was afraid you'd do the same to me."
"Were you ever gonna tell me?"
Anabelle sighed. "Honestly, I don't know. I didn't want you to find out this way."
Javier picked up the bag he brought with him and pulled out a small stuffed animal. "I had Steve stop at the store on the way back. I...I wanted to get it...the baby something."
Anabelle teared up and walked over to Javier. She took the plushie from him and said, "Thank you."
"Can...can I...?"
Anabelle nodded. She took one of Javier's hands and set it on her stomach.
"I wouldn't, you know?" Javier said, "Run from you. From this. I never thought I'd have this. How far along are you?"
"About three months."
"Wait. So that means..."
Anabelle laughed and nodded. "That drunken one night stand. Honestly, I'm surprised it took you this long to knock a girl up."
Javier laughed.
"Javi, what are we going to do?"
Javier sighed and set his forehead on hers. "I don't know, but we've got this."
