Summary: Javier is forced to admit that his job takes a toll on his girlfriend Kaylea.

"Javi! Javi!" Kaylea screamed, running down the hallway of the hospital.

Steve stopped her before she could run into the room. "Stop, stop."

"Where is he? Where is Javier? Let me see him!"

Steve grabbed her by the shoulders. "Trust me, you don't want to see this."

Kaylea glared at him and shoved him to the side.

Javier lay on a hospital bed, her favorite baby blue shirt of his stained with blood. Doctors were working on trying to stop the bleeding, but there was so much blood.

"Javi!" Kaylea whimpered.

Javier's heart-rate flat-lined and a nurse started chest compressions.

"Javi!" Kaylea screamed.

Steve grabbed her and pulled her out of the room.

"No! Let me go! He needs me!"

More doctors and nurses rushed into Javier's room.

"What's happening!"

Soon it went quiet and the doctor stepped out. "Lo siento."

Tears filled Kaylea's eyes and she felt her heart breaking. "NO! JAVI!!!!"

"Kaylea!" Kaylea's eyes snapped open and Javier was leaning over her.

"Javi?"

"You were screaming in your sleep, cariño."

Kaylea looked around and noticed the bedroom was dark except for the light from the bedside lamp. She knew it was late because Javier was still wearing his leather jacket.

He must have just come home from a mission.

"You're okay."

Javier gave her a smile. "Of course I am, baby."

"You...you were dead."

In his line of work, Javier was used to nightmares, but he never imagined it would affect the person he was in a relationship with. Javier sighed and took her hand. He placed it on his heart.

"Feel that?" Kaylea nodded.

"Focus on my heartbeat." Javier tapped the back of her hand in the rhythm of a heart beating. "There you go, cariño," he said, noticing her breathing leveling out.

Kaylea sat up and wrapped her arms around Javier's neck. "It felt so real, Javi," Kaylea sniffled, "I don't know what I'd do if you died."

Javi stroked her hair and kissed her head. "Shhh. Don't think about that."

"How can not? When you're out there risking your life."

"The thought of making it back to you keeps me alive." Javier pulled away from Kaylea.

"Wait!" Kaylea cried.

"It's okay, sweetheart. I'm just going to get changed," he reassured her. He stripped down to a pair of boxers and crawled in bed with Kaylea, wrapping his arms tight around her. He kissed the back of her head. "Go to sleep, cariño."

The next time Kaylea woke up, she heard Javier on the phone with someone. She rolled over in bed and noticed it was 9 a.m.

What was Javier doing home? Shouldn't he be at the Embassy or in Medellín?

Kaylea padded into the living room and Javier spotted her.

"Hey, I gotta go, but let me know how it goes." He hung up the phone and turned to her. "Hungry?"

"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at work?"

Javier shrugged. "Vacation day. I've got plenty of them."

Kaylea sighed and put her hands hips.

Javier smiled, seeing the mannerism she'd picked up from him.

"You don't have to stay home with me."

Javier walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "I know my job takes its toll on you..."

Kaylea opened her mouth to say something, but Javier hushed her.

"You can deny it all you want, but I can see it. I...I've never had someone to care about me like this, except maybe Pops."

Kaylea smiled at the mention of Chucho. True, she'd never met the man, but they talked on the phone every now and then and she couldn't wait to meet him one day.

Javier took her hand in his and brought it to his lips to brush kisses on her knuckles. "I wanna spend the day with you. I want you to take me to that little restaurant you can't stop talking about. I want you to introduce me to the feral cat colony you found the other week. I want to have one day where I'm not chasing down Narcos or having to worry about being killed. One good day."

Kaylea gave him a soft smile. "I think I can manage that."
