Summary: Anabelle and Javier go out for drinks. The story of what led to Javier and Anabelle's one night stand.
A/N - Inspired by "Bad Idea" from Waitress.
What was supposed to be a night out with co-workers turned into an awkward date.
"Damn, Woodward," Javier said when he saw her.
Anabelle was dressed in a tight red dress with matching heels. "Where's Carrillo and Steve?"
"Carrillo's wife didn't want him going out tonight and Connie wasn't feeling well. Looks like it's just gonna be you and me tonight, cariño."
On one hand, Anabelle was sad that Steve and Carrillo wouldn't be there to act as a buffer between her and Javier. But on the other, she was thankful to have him to herself. She'd found him attractive since the moment she met him.
Anabelle sighed. "Well, I guess we should get inside."
Javier put a hand on her lower back and they walked into the bar. Anabelle grabbed them a table while Javier went to order their drinks.
He came back with a whiskey bottle and a jack and coke.
"You remembered," Anabelle said.
"'Course I did, Ana."
Anabelle blushed, but luckily Javier couldn't see it in the dim lighting. Javier and Anabelle didn't talk much, preferring to just watch the people in the crowd.
A quick Salsa came on and Javier stood up, shrugging off his leather jacket. "Come on," he said.
Anabelle laughed. "What?"
"Get your gorgeous ass up. I wanna dance with you."
Anabelle was used to hearing Javier's dominating voice, but this time it sent shivers down her spine. Anabelle stood up and let Javier lead her onto the dance-floor.
Neither of them were experts in salsa dancing, but when in Rome, right?
The sexual tension between the two could be felt by the other patrons of the bar.
The song came to an end and before she could pull away, Javier kissed Anabelle.
She melted at the feeling of his lips touching hers, before she came to her senses and pulled away. "This is a very bad idea," Anabelle told him.
Javier nodded. "Yeah. It is."
The two stared at each other before leaning in again.
Anabelle's hands slid in Javier's hair as she pressed herself closer to him. Javier's hands slid down to her hips and squeezed hard. Anabelle gasped and Javier took this advantage to slide his tongue into her mouth.
Anabelle whimpered. "Javi..."
Javier growled. "Say it again, cariño."
The tone in his voice woke Anabelle up to what was happening. She pulled away from him and rushed back to their table, Javier following.
"Where are you going?"
"Home!" Anabelle stormed out of the bar. She stood on by the curb trying to hail a cab.
"Why are you running away?" Javier asked her.
Anabelle turned to him. "Because we can't do this, Javier."
Javier put his hands on his hips. "And why not?"
"We're co-workers!"
Javier chuckled. "That's never stopped anyone before."
Anabelle groaned in frustration. "I'm serious, Javier! Do you have any idea how badly this could end for me? The kind of humiliation I would have to go through?"
Javier's brows furrowed. "I'd never let that happen to you."
Anabelle laughed bitterly. "You have no idea how easy you have it as a man, Javier. You don't have to deal with the kinds of things I do. You would never understand."
"I've faced my share-fair of prejudice. I'm too American for Colombia and too Mexican for America. I've been stereotyped by supervisors, all because I wasn't white. So don't you dare talk to me about not understanding, because you will never understand what I've gone through."
Anabelle put a hand on Javier's face. "I'm sorry you had to go through that, Javi." Against her better judgement, Anabelle kissed Javier. It was soft and sweet.
"You said we shouldn't," he reminded her.
Anabelle shook her head. "I don't care. Take me home, Javier."
Javier kissed her until the honk of a cab startled them.
It was a bad idea, Anabelle thought as they got in the cab. But Anabelle had to admit it was a rather good one.
