Summary: Jack goes out for a drink and gets a shock.
Jack was sitting at the bar when a group of ladies walked in.
They grabbed a booth near the back and were giggling amongst themselves.
Jack knocked back his shot glass of whiskey and got up to walk over to them. At least one of them would be interested in an older man like himself. But then he stopped.
Sitting with them was a young woman who looked almost exactly like his wife. Different bone structure, but same brown hair, same kind eyes.
Jack didn't know what to do. He walked over to their booth and said, "You ladies causin' trouble over here?"
A couple of them giggled.
"And what about you, cowboy? You hit on women half your age regularly?" one of them asked.
Jack, unlike most men, knew when to back off. "Ya'll have a good night." He tipped his hat to them and retreated back to his barstool.
"Excuse me?" he heard.
He turned and saw his ex-wife's doppelgänger.
"I'm sorry about my friends."
Jack smiled. "Ah, don't worry 'bout me, darlin'. I've been rejected before."
"Can I buy you a drink?"
"Shouldn't I be the one askin' you that question?"
She blushed. "Please. To apologize."
"Alright."
"I'm Katerina." She put her hand out.
Jack shook it and said, "Jack Daniels."
Katerina laughed. "Like the whiskey?"
"Favorite drink, sugar."
Katerina turned to the bartender and said, "Another one of what he's drinking. Put it on my tab."
The bartender filled his shot glass.
"Cheers, darlin'."
"Have a good night, Jack." She walked back over to the booth and
Jack saw her friends start gossiping. He wondered what they were saying about him. He watched Katerina got up and started dancing.
A young man approached her and tried to talk her into dancing with him. He saw her shake her the head, but the man grabbed her.
Jack jumped up from his barstool and walked over. "She said no, boy."
"Back off, old man."
"Let it go before you get hurt."
The man scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Whatever. She's not worth it anyway."
Jack saw red and he punched the man in the face.
Katerina gasped.
"Come on. Let's get you out of here," Jack told her.
Katerina walked over to the booth and grabbed her jacket.
Jack followed her out to her car to prevent her from being accosted again. "Damn. That is a nice-lookin' truck you got there, darlin'."
"Well this is Kentucky. No self-respecting country girl would drive anything else."
Jack laughed.
"Thank you, Jack. For defending me tonight."
"No self-respecting country boy would just sit back as another man disrespected a woman." Jack kissed her hand and said, "Get home safe, sugar."
