Summary: Chloe and Frankie meet when she's assigned to Delta Force as Frankie's co-pilot.
A/N - Inspired by "Me and the Sky" from Come From Away. I've always thought it would be cool if Frankie fell in love with a fellow pilot.
Fae always knew she wanted to be a pilot. It was the only thing she ever wanted to do. She would watch the planes fly over their house and wonder what it was like all the way up there above the clouds, so her parents took her down to the airport. She watched in fascination as the planes took off and landed.
At eight years old, she turned to her parents and said, "I'm gonna do that."
Her father just chuckled and patted her on the head. "Just wait and see what happens, babydoll."
She started flying lessons when she was 16 and after her first lessons, she jumped out of the plane and said, "I'm going to do this for the rest of my life."
Her first job was flying small shipments for local companies. She tried getting a job with an airline, but she kept getting turned down so did something drastic and applied for the military. At least there she'd been taken seriously.
Her parents had cried and asked her why? Why did she want to be a pilot so badly? Why couldn't she pick a different career? Why did she need to risk her life to do what she wanted to?
"Do we really need a pilot? We've already got, Fish," Santi said.
Tom shook his head. "I dunno. Maybe they think Fish needs a co-pilot."
The guys started laughing.
"Man, shut the fuck up. You know Fish is the best damn pilot we've ever had."
The small fighter plane landed and the top raised. The person who climbed down from the cockpit wasn't who they were expecting.
"A girl? You're giving us a girl?" Tom complained.
The female pilot whipped her helmet off, looking a lot like from a movie scene.
"That is the best-looking woman I've ever seen in my goddamn life," Benny said.
"So who gets dibs, you or Pope?" Will joked.
Santi looked over at Frankie. He looked like she was the only thing he could see.
The young woman walked over to them with her helmet under her arm. "Which one of you is Catfish?"
Frankie froze as the guys looked at him.
Santi nudged his best friend.
"I'm Frankie."
She smiled. "It's an honor to meet you, Frankie. I've heard so much about you. I'm Fae."
"Ain't that cute? Frankie and Fae," Benny teased.
Frankie blushed.
"You got a callsign?" Will asked.
"Pixie," Fae said, "Not really a fan though."
"Actually, pixie's are known to be bring blessings to those that are fond of them," Frankie said.
"Really? Well maybe it's not that bad after all. See you in the air, flyboy." She walked back to her plane and the boys jumped on Frankie.
"She wants you, man," Benny told him.
Frankie blushed again. He wasn't as popular with the ladies as Pope or Benny, so he wasn't used to having a woman flirt with him.
Frankie and Fae were inseparable ever since their first mission, where she had refused to leave Frankie's side. Even though she wasn't qualified to be in a fire fight, she had grabbed a gun and fought her way to him. She dragged him back to the helicopter and helped him fly back to base.
Before they wheeled him away, he kissed her and called her "his Pixie". When Frankie kissed her, she felt like she was flying.
They started dating and married as soon as they were state-side. She promised that day to never leave his side, which was why she followed him to Colombia when Pope asked. Fae knew it was a bad idea, but she couldn't let Frankie go alone.
"Lose the money, or we're all gonna die!" Frankie yelled, "Hit the external load release. It's the on wall!"
Fae grabbed for the lever, Benny holding her waist to keep her from falling. "Nothing happened!"
Will opened the door on the bottom of the helicopter and sure enough, the money net was still attached.
"There should be a manual override on the cargo hook!"
"Let me through!" Benny yelled. He dropped down out of the helicopter and kicked the hook until it released.
The force of the net dropping, threw them all backward.
"Fae!" Frankie yelled.
"I'm fine!"
"Benny!" Will yelled, reaching for his younger brother.
"Alright, I'm gonna try and land over here," Frankie said.
"Hurry up, Fish!" Fae yelled at her husband.
"I gotta jump!" Benny yelled.
"Benny!" Will yelled as his brother hit the ground.
The helicopter hit the ground and started spinning.
"Bad landing," Frankie quipped.
Santi threw himself on top of Fae, keeping her from rolling around.
The helicopter fell on it's side and Fae and Santi hit the seat opposite them.
Fae heard Santi groan. "I'm sorry," she told him.
"It's alright, querida."
Once the helicopter stopped spinning, Fae got up and ran for the cockpit. "Frankie!"
Frankie was still strapped into his seat.
"Oh my god. Are you hurt, baby?" she asked.
There was a cut on his cheek, but other than that he was fine.
Fae pressed her lips to his.
"Next time, I fly. Understand?"
Frankie laughed. "Loud and clear."
