Summary: Javi and Clarissa finally talk about what happened in Colombia.
Things were awkward between Clarissa and Javier after their initial reunion.
Javier still didn't understand how Clarissa was alive and Clarissa didn't understand why Javier wasn't in Colombia.
"You two need to talk," Chucho told Javier.
"But how can I tell her about what I did?"
"She has her own secrets, hijo."
Chucho went to bed early that night, leaving Clarissa and Javier alone.
Clarissa had a habit of sitting on the back porch and watching the stars.
Javier joined her, a beer bottle in his hand. "I have to know. Why didn't you tell me you were alive?" Javier asked Clarissa.
Clarissa sighed. "They found out about me, Javi. They knew where I lived, so the CIA thought that if I was dead, I'd be safe."
Clarissa wiped at her eyes. "I wanted to tell you Javi. I wanted to tell you so badly."
"You let me believe you were dead."
Clarissa reached over and grabbed Javier's hand. "I know. But I did it to protect you."
Javier laughed bitterly and took a drink of his beer. "I don't need you to protect me."
"Really? Because you would have been shot on a number of occasions if it wasn't for me."
Javier smiled. "Point taken."
"Part of me thinks they pulled me out of the field as a punishment."
Javier looked over at her.
Clarissa wasn't looking at him; she was looking up at the stars.
"Punishment? For what?"
Clarissa turned her head to look at him. "Because I fell in love. I fell in love with you."
Javier reached over and took her chin in his hand, placing a soft kiss on her lips.
"I never wanted to leave you, especially after finding out you returned my feelings. That's why I told Connie to tell you I loved you."
"So Connie knew?"
"Not that much. Only that she needed to make my death look believable."
"I never got to say goodbye to you. They wouldn't let me see you."
Clarissa put a hand on his cheek. "I know, I know. But we couldn't risk Escobar or someone finding you. You had to believe I was dead."
Javier reached into his shirt and pulled out the chain with her ring on it.
"My ring."
They had taken it off her at the hospital, but she never knew what had happened to it.
"Your mom felt sorry for me, so she sent it to me. I never took it off because it was the only thing I had left of you. With it, I felt like you were always by my side."
Clarissa launched herself at him, kissing him passionately.
Javier grabbed her waist and pulled her into his lap.
"I love you, Javier Peña."
"How? I'm not a good man. I've done some terrible things."
Clarissa looked at him confused.
"After your 'death'...I kind of went off the rails. I wanted Escobar to pay, so I..."
"You joined Los Pepes."
Javier looked at her. "How do you know about that?"
"I kept tabs on you and the investigation. There were people in Embassy that kept me in the loop."
"I regret ever helping them, but I don't regret taking down Escobar."
"You accomplished what you set out to do. Sure, it wasn't the best decision, but you still completed the mission."
Javier sighed and leaned his head back against the chair.
"Listen to me, Javier Peña. I know you. I know you can be abrasive and it makes everyone think you're an asshole. I know you can obsess over things to the point where you don't eat or sleep, but I also know you care. Like a lot. You have a huge heart that you don't show anyone except the people you love. I will never leave you. Not again."
Javier leaned forward and set his head in Clarissa's neck. "They want me to take down Cali next." He felt Clarissa tense in his arms.
"I can't go back to Colombia, Javi. It's still too dangerous."
"I know..."
"But I'll be here when you get back. However long it takes. When do you go back?"
"Three weeks. Just after Danny's wedding." He felt Clarissa press her lips to his temple. At least this time, he'd get to say goodbye.
