Pain ~14 (S1)

Kaname had almost not let me go alone last night. I didn't know why he was so... protective? He had said that he would be checking up on me most nights, which gave me some comfort but not much.

"You okay Akari-San?" Yuki asked strolling beside me. I realised I had been spacing out and snapped out of it.

"Yeah, yeah I'm fine." I pulled my hair back and tied it into a low ponytail. Moonlight illuminated the ground in front of us.

"So~"Yuki said, stepping closer to me so we were almost shoulder to shoulder," What's going on between you and Kaname?"

My face heated. "Wh-what would make you think that?" I stuttered, probably giving away my nervousness. Had she seen something?

"Well, I did see you and Kaname rather close together yesterday." Of course, she had seen something, it was almost a special talent of Yuki.

"How's Zero?" I asked quickly, changing the subject, I haven't seen around lately. Yuki narrowed her eyes as if trying to figure out if I was genuinely concerned or had just not wanted to talk about Kaname anymore.

"He's been...okay." Why did she hesitate? My mind raced with possible thoughts on what could have happened.

"Is he on patrol?"

"No he's in his room but-"

"I'm going to go see him. Can you finish patrol without me right?"

"Yes but-"

"Goodbye."

I knocked gently on Zero's bedroom door. "Zero? Zero are you in there?" No noise came from within. Strange. "I'm going to come in okay?" Again no response. The door creaked as I opened it, light flooding into his darkroom. Zero sat on his bed, head in his hands as if deep in thought.

"Are you okay?" I asked, moving closer to him. He lifted his head from his hands, flinching away from my gaze when he made eye contact with me. "What happened?" I moved to place a hand on his shoulder but he slapped it away but instead of his hand hitting mine it hit the carvings on my arm instead. I hissed in pain as the impact made the cuts begin to bleed again.

Zero stood up from the bed with lighting speed and ran out of the room.

"Zero!" I dashed after him. I managed to grab onto his sleeve, yanking him back. He swung back around to me his eyes glowing red, a pained look on his face. I felt a pain in my neck.
