Chapter 26

** Reid's P.O.V. ** 

Later that evening after visiting Jacob and receiving a call from Carrie I decided it was finally time to show my face at the C.I.A. 

"Darce, I've gotta go to the office, there's some paper work I need to finish up, I don't know when I'll be home so don't wait up" I said as I walked into the dining room 

"Okay" she barely whispered as she turned to face the sink, I could see her eyes were red and she had been crying 

"Hey, Hey, come here" I whispered softly as I walked across the room towards her "Darce, don't cry, Jacob will see sense I promise you, we've just got to give it some time" I cooed 

"Spencer I don't think I can give it anymore time" she choked "I've missed out on his entire life and now he's a grown man! How could he begin to accept us into his life if we were never there in the first place?" she sobbed 

I hugged her tightly, feeling terrible that I had to leave her like this 

"Darcy, he'll find a way, I'm sure he's a good kid and soon enough he'll get curious and want to find out what his real parents are like, he'll come round, you'll see!" I said with hope  

She hugged me tighter and took a deep breath 

"Do you have to leave?" she sighed 

"Yea, I'm sorry baby I'm already behind on some things and I really need to finish them before we get a new case" I lied  

"Okay" she whispered as she gave me one last hug before letting me go 

"I love you" I whispered in her ear before kissing her cheek and leaving the room. 

I drove to Langley and hesitantly entered the building. 

"Sir, have you got I.D?" a tall big built security guard stopped me as I entered the building  

"Um, I'm here to see Carrie Matheson" I said  

"He's with me" I heard her authoritive voice bounce off the walls of the huge building as she walked in big, confident strides towards me. She didn't smile. 

"Yes ma'am" the security guard nodded as he stepped back into his office 

"Come with me" she mumbled as she turned her back to me and began walking away from me 

She led me up the giant metal stairs up to the second floor where we walked through what felt like a life time of hallways before she brought me into a closed off room filled with all types of computers and machinery 

"This is where we will be leading the task force, if you're on board by the end of the night then you will fly out to Islamabad in 10 days" she said in a cruel tone 

"10 days" I raised my voice in incredulously at this ridiculous time frame 

"I could have had you flown out in the morning but I decided to give you some time" she replied bitterly 

"Some time!" I scoffed sarcastically "Do you realise what I have to sacrifice for this?" I questioned  

"Look Dr Reid" she spat sourly "don't fucking think for a second you're doing me any favours by signing up for this, you can leave now if you want, I didn't want you in the first place, it was your precious little unit chief that I owed this favour to!" she finished in a hiss 

"Hotch?" I looked at her in confusion 

"Yes Hotch! Or whatever the fuck you call him. We worked together on a terrorism case not long ago, he pulled some strings for me and I owed him. When he saw what was going on between you and that Jareau girl" she began 

"Agent Jareau" I interrupted, correcting her for brushing off JJ like she was trash 

"Yea whatever, so when Aaron realised that something was going on between you two he knew it wouldn't end up well, seeing as things weren't going too good in Berlin for your wife, which you were cheating on might I add" she stabbed her remarks at me 

"I thought she was dead" I said in a low and dangerous tone 

"Well you still cheated on her, and stop fucking interrupting me and just listen for god sake!" she raised her voice "so Aaron knew your wife would be coming home in the next few months, yet she came home rather earlier to everyone's surprise except her little friend Jennifer Jareau who knew exactly when she was coming home yet decided to lead you on anyway. Which ended in Aaron having to make the rash decision of putting you here with me because I had no other choice and this way shit doesn't go down between your two little girlfriends, so you can thank me later when they can't get to you to beat the crap out of you" she finished 

"How do you know all this?" I asked speechless  

"I'm the C.I.A. remember!" she shook her head 

"You really don't give a shit about all that I have to go through to for this?" I spat 

"Nope, now follow me there's some people here I want you to meet" she remained as serious as ever as she walked through a side door in the technical room into a small, drab grey interrogation room 

"Dr Reid these are the rest of the Agents on this taskforce that you will be liaising with in Islamabad, this is Peter Quinn, Farah Oken and Max Stanley." She said in a bored tone 

"Nice to meet you" I nodded in their direction 

"Let's get started shall we?" she said sarcastically as we walked back into the task force room
