Watching From Elysium

NO MIST:

Percy couldn't believe the impact his death had caused. He watched as the people he cared about tore themselves apart and forgot to put themselves back together again. He was dead, he didn't have to do anything, he couldn't do anything about it anyway. He had hoped after mourning his death for a while that his friends and family would move on and although he would always be a mark in their hearts, they would learn to live without him

But that didn't happen, at least for the seven of the prophecy

The most heartbreaking thing to watch as his mother broke over the news of her baby boy's death, the way she let out a strangled scream and stifled a sob as she sank to her knees before cursing every God and mythical being she could think of, as she sobbed over her boy that held so much life and so much hope for the future that was cruelly taken from him. She knew that a life of a demigod was never easy and they often died young but she prayed and hoped with everything in her that Percy would be different.

That Percy would be the exception

Sally should have known better, she had just hoped he would be different. Be better. But like all heroes before him, he met his end before he should've and in his demise left other people around him to pick up the pieces of their life and slot them together again, the best way they could holding onto memories physical objects anything they could to remind her of her baby boy

But eventually, life intervened and she had to move on, the memories of Percy still fresh in her mind every day from his trouble-maker grin to his kind composure always ready to sacrifice himself to save a loved one despite that still being fresh in Sally's mind she eventually moved on with the help of her loving husband and young daughter

It was bittersweet for Percy to see his mother move on with her life, it wasn't like he didn't want her to, he just wanted to be there with her but nevertheless Percy was happy that his mother was able to move on it was more than what his dear sweet Annabeth was able to do

"Annabeth you've been working on the same sketch for days now," Malcolm, one of Annabeth's half brothers told her with a frown which she didn't see as she continued to almost manically sketch on the blueprint and there was no recognition that she had even heard him "Perhaps you should go outside and maybe teach Architecture or something just get out of the cabin"

"No! I need to finish, this needs to be perfect"

"You've done hundreds what makes this one any different"

"Because it's for him" Annabeth whispered out. A mighty scream left her through in anguish and she screamed and screamed until her voice was hoarse and she didn't stop even when her voice wasn't there anymore and her voice turned into sobs

"I want him back" Annabeth sobbed

"I know," Malcolm told her as he wrapped his sister into a hug "I know"

Annabeth snapped heatedly "No you don't, my brain is constantly on overdrive ever since Percy left, somedays it feels like my brain is going to explode and I only want to work work work it's like I don't see a life for myself anymore, I don't want to die but I don't want to live either"
