Your Hand Fit Perfectly In My Own

NO MIST

Annabeth woke up in the middle of the night.

Her blood was running cold and the ends of her feet were turning white, there was many times in her life where she would wake up cold and alone. Only she wasn't alone this time, but she was cold and she turned her head to see Percy sleeping beside her, his black hair a mess and splayed out over the pillow and half his forehead and he was snoring slightly

He looked so peaceful, so angelic and Annabeth couldn't help but bring her hand up to caress Percy's cheek. All her life she didn't think she could become this happy. A demigod's life was often filled with hardships and trauma, it was hard to make alliances or have friends because they would either fall victim to the life of a demigod and die tragically or they would find something better, breaking away from them and leaving them

The bottom line is Annabeth was always left behind

Whether they meant to leave her like her family (or more accurately they didn't want her) or death snatched them away from her like Thalia, although she came back to life she quickly left Annabeth as quickly as she had come back into her life joing the Hunters to avoid the responsibility  of the Prophecy -- only in doing so, she handed the responsibility off to Percy even though the boy was just a child himself, he shouldered the burden so no-one else would have to

And Luke--

Squeezing her eyes shut Annabeth tried not to think about it and instead turned her attention back to Percy trying to invision his sea-green eyes behind his closed eyelids. The captivating green eyes that seemed to put Annabeth at ease whatever she was feeling and the way that no matter what he had done, every time he was around Annabeth, he seemed to only have a soft expression that he reserved only for her

"Percy!" She whispered into the peaceful darkness

Her boyfriend didn't move, continuing to sleep as if he was dead to the world and Annabeth let a sigh slip from her lips. Then with another try, she tried to shake him awake him whispering more harshly "Percy! Wake up, I'm cold"

Still, Percy didn't stir

Coming up with another idea, Annabeth grabs ahold of the blankets wrapped around her boyfriend like a cocoon and in three seconds pulled the blankets away from him with so much force that Percy ended up sprawling out on the floor, and Annabeth crawled to the edge of the bed and started giggling as Percy looked up from the floor, still half asleep but at least she was clutching the blankets in her grasp, having wrapped them around her body like a cocoon

"Ow, Annabeth what the Hades!"

"You wouldn't wake up and I was cold!"

"So...Asking me to wake up, wouldn't have worked?"

"I tried! You were dead to the world!" Annabeth giggled, flopping back onto the bed, back facing up towards the ceiling as she looked over the edge of the bed at Percy who was still lying on the floor being as dramatic as ever. Suddenly, with a speed that surprised even Annabeth Percy was on his feet and had jumped onto the bed beside her with a dangerous glint in his eyes

"I think someone needs a little payback" Percy grinned, it was lopsided, the sort of grin that Annabeth mistrusted at first but now has come to love it and he leans in closer, his breath tickling the shell of her ear as he moves her hair back behind her ear "What do you say?"

"Percy...Percy...No what are you trying to do?"

Percy didn't answer but Annabeth had a feeling she knew what he was going to do, his smile never faded as his hands made their way towards Annabeth's hips, gripping them gently as he begins to tickle her sides and torso causing her to shriek and let out a laugh as loud as she has laughed in a couple of months

"No! No! Stop" Annabeth begged through laughter but Percy didn't relent and instead continued to tickle her even more. Even grabbing one of her hands and pushing her backwards into the bed and even threading their fingers through his. No matter how much laughter spilled from her mouth, Annabeth could only focus on how perfectly Percy's hands fit in her own. Slightly bigger than her own hands but they held a certain amount of comfort that Annabeth could only find from Percy

She tried to kick out at him, scratch him, punch him, tried to get a grip of her demigod senses so she could overpower him and be free of this tortue but tickling was one of her weaknesses and he knew that. Not many people knew that she was ticklish but Percy did and he used that to her advantage every time

"I cant breathe -- I -- can't breathe!" Annabeth tried again, pleading with him as she let out another squeal, kicking her legs up in the air. The kick accediently catching Percy in his side, but that didn't deter him from tickling Annabeth as hard as he could, wanting to hear his beautiful blonde girlfriend laugh as she hadn't laughed this hard in a few months -- not since the Titan war and she lost Luke.

He knew how hard losing Luke was for her and just wanted to hear her laugh

After a few more minutes he relents, freeing Annabeth and allowing her to breathe freely as he flops back down next to her and crawls under the duvet keeping their hans intertwined and he couldn't help but marvel at how perfect her hand seemed to fit in his hands, so soft and strong with a few criss cross scars from multiple monster and sword related injuries

He never knew he could be so lucky and he knew he'd be with Annabeth for as long as he could be

Sally Jackson was waiting by the door watching her son and the girl that she pretty much saw as a daughter had a tickle fight and she was smiling at the fact that they were acting like children. Because that's what they were children. Children who had an unlucky hand dealt early on in their lives through no fault of their own, most kids were paying the price of their parents mistakes. Especially Percy. Sometimes Sally wonders what life would be like if she hadn't fallen in love with Poseidon, her life would be a hell of a lot easier but Percy wouldn't be in her life and Percy made everything better. He was the light in her life

"What are you two doing up?" Sally said, sleep in her voice

"I got cold because your son hogs the blankets and sleeps like the dead so I had to push him off the bed in order to wake him up!" Annabeth exclaimed, jabbing her fingers in Percy's chest and Percy rubs his chest, faking hurt.

"Welcome to my world, it took me ages to get him up in the mornings"

"And so I had to get payback by tickling her!" Percy jumps in, trying to change the subject to something less focused on him and his poor morning habits but he couldn't deny it made him happy to see his mother and Annabeth bonding -- the two most important people in his life (along with Grover he was and always would be his best friend)

"Well it's like two o'clock in the morning and I have to work early in the morning so can we please save some payback for tommorow" Sally says, a slight warning tone in her voice but it was so soft and kind that Annabeth didn't notice

"Yes mom, we'll go to sleep now!"

"Good"

When Sally left Annabeth turned around and Percy kissed her on the forehead, and suddenly Annabeth didn't feel so cold anymore as her blood was running red hot and a thousand butterflies erupted in her stomach and she knew she wouldn't be able to go a day without Percy by her side ever again.

The two of them fell asleep again holding hands.
