Those Three Words

NO MIST

After Tartarus, you would think that everything would be easy that the mundane day to day would feel less anxiety-inducing but the opposite happened, everything felt heightened and Percy and Annabeth felt on edge constantly. From the smallest of noise to the fireworks on a Fourth of July parade, anything and everything seemed to set them off

But they got through it together

Nights were the hardest and on those nights they would hold each other close and refuse to let each other go as if they were the only two people keeping everything together and in line for the other person -- and perhaps they were -- and the only other person in the entire demigod and mortal world that may know what they were going through was the one Nico Di Angelo, but he had his own demons to contend with and fortunately he seemed to be healing on his own terms with the help of a son of Apollo by the name of Will Solace

Shadows seemed to eat them at night and they found themselves clinging onto each other for dear life, whispering sweet nothings in their partner's ears as they wait for the shadows to pass them and for the day to turn into night

Annabeth woke up from another nightmare. Her body shaking and her heart was beating so loud she can hear it in her ears, but she tried as best she could to focus on Percy's breathing. She hadn't been able to get a full night sleep since Tartarus, doubts and fears seemed to work together to drown her -- and she was worried that one day they would get her completely

"Annabeth?" Percy whispered in the darkness of the night from where he slept restlessly next to her. It was against Camp Policy normally to have someone of the opposite gender in a cabin that wasn't there's but after two weeks of screams tearing through the Camp every time one of them had a nightmare, they figured that Percy and Annabeth sleep better when together so Chiron begrudgingly allowed it

"Nightmares", Annabeth admits, her voice quiet almost like a child and she was still shaking but Percy shushes her and gently pushes her back down to the bed as she had sat upright from the shock of the nightmare and Percy lay next to her and cradled her body as if she was trying to protect her from the world, and as Annabeth's breathing evened she found herself never wanting to leave this moment but she knew by morning that moment would be shattered

Percy kissed her hairline and pulled Annabeth in closer to his body making Annabeth sigh in content, knowing this is where she wanted to stay for the rest of her life "I'll stay with you tonight. I'll stay with you every night until you don't need me anymore"

"I don't know how I could ever not need you" Annabeth twisted in Percy's embrace so that she was facing the demigod and gently stroked the side of his face, their voices matching barely above a whisper as they didn't want to wake up the others from the neighbouring cabins "You changed my life, Percy Jackson. You were the one to show me I was worth something when everyone else abandoned me from a young age like I was nothing and after a while, you start to believe it you start to believe what you are shown and what you are told but you Perce you showed me another way you showed me that I wasn't nothing. That I was never nothing"

Annabeth had no time to react after she had finished speaking, her hands were suddenly pinned above her head and Percy was on top of her smirking down at her before their lips attach. This kiss held desire and lust and was different from the few tentative kisses they had given each other since they had returned from Tartarus

Percy pulled away so the two could breathe but he was still looming over Annabeth, the same crooked smirk on his face that Annabeth had fell in love with "I will always be here for you. And I will always chase the nightmares away"
