Elodie Williams

NO MIST:

"I hope you've finally learnt how to drown Perseus!" Annabeth snarls, her blonde hair tucked into her helmet with the red brush on top of it. I cower behind the daughter of wisdom, my sword feeling heavier in my hands. I have heard that Capture The Flag could be brutal, especially when Percy and Annabeth, the two time saviours of Olympus were on separate teams but having stumbled into camp a few weeks ago I was still new to the camp and the competitive nature of it all

In response Percy's grin was almost wolfish, flashing all his teeth and it being lopsided as his eyes darkened like a thousand storms and I actually take a step back. He looked terrifying, his teeth bared in a snarl and his jaw clenched as he tightened his grip on his sword swinging it over his shoulder

He looked like a soldier, a warrior someone who could kill me without a second thought and a short rough laugh tore from his throat. Deep and dark and chilling as he smiled at Annabeth "Ooh Wise Girl, how many times is that sharp tongue of yours going to get you in trouble? You should have learnt by now"

Percy was taunting her, but Annabeth didn't seem bothered. In fact, it seemed that the blonde was giving as good as she got, whipping out her daggers and twirling them in her hands "That all you got?" She asked arching an eyebrow challenging  "Let's hope you're better at swinging your sword than you are at smack talking!"

"Oh you know I am" Percy's wolfish grin turned into a smirk

Was he flirting? I didn't know, I couldn't quite figure it out

Either way, Annabeth was having none of it and instead levelled Percy with a cold stare, liquid grey eyes fueled with a quiet fury as she bristled "Shut up Seaweed Brain and we'll see who comes out on top"

"That'll be me too darling, don't you worry" Percy winked and I may be young but I knew that was flirting. Even if I didn't quite know what it was but if Annabeth's red face was something to go by, whether it was anger swelling up her cheeks or a blush painting them,  I wasn't sure I wanted to know

She, just like Percy Jackson, was terrifying either way.

And just like that, the game started and before I could get too far into the woods or the game as a whole. I felt a tug on my arm and stumbled back into Annabeth, the seventeen-year-old steadying me before hurriedly whispering in my ear "Elodie I need you to stay behind me as this is your first games I don't want you to get hurt too badly"

I winced. Realising there was a very real possibility I could get hurt

I wasn't ready for this

I nod, my brown hair that was pinned up into two braids that spilt down my back, hitting me in the back and my helmet almost crushing my skull under its weight. But I wasn't going to complain, I couldn't. Annabeth had been through a hell of a lot more than I have and I heard that she hardly complains, so I wasn't going to show her any weakness

If she noticed the fear in my deep brown eyes she didn't comment "Come on then"

* * * * *

The game had ended in a tie

Fortunately, I didn't get hurt too badly with Annabeth keeping a watchful eye on me, just a few scrapes and bruises from campers that got too involved in the game ( which was mostly all of the camp ) and they were too quick for me, most having years of experience and training behind them while I was still trying to get used to the weight and balance of my sword -- it's a lot harder than I thought it would be!

Well that and balancing a shield, I may have tasted dirt a few times

But Annabeth was kind enough to not point it out

Even though the game ended in a tie, I still felt a sense of defeat and dread rise up inside of me and settle in my stomach, coiling like a snake getting tighter and tighter until it felt like I couldn't breathe but a hand resting on my shoulder allowed my to release the breath that I knew I was holding but couldn't let go of

"Hey, you alright?" The thick New York accent rang in my ears

Looking up I took in the form of Percy Jackson and suddenly all the air was sucked from my lungs again, despite the smile on his face now, he still looked terrifying to me. Towering over me, all height and lean muscles that rippled and black hair that was slicked to his forehead with the light amout of effort he had put into the game ( although he still looked better than me who was flushed in the face covered from head to toe in mirky dirt, breathing heavily, wide-eyed and attempting to get my bearings covered in a sheen of sweat)

What seemed like a map of thousands of scars ran down his skin, each in a different pattern but not marring it but somehow instead he looked more attractive. But with the lopsided grin that seemed almost natural and the way he was swinging his sword over his head. A stoic expression on his face and a fire blazing in his eyes as if he had a mission to complete and nothing was going to stop him, I'd be to damn scared to say anything

All in all, he looked like a God

I silently prayed that I never meet the Gods because if they looked like Percy...I was screwed.

"I'm fine" I choked out quietly, not quite sure what I was supposed to say and it seemed like I wasn't going to get the chance to say anything anyway because Annabeth called for his attention and I was scared a fight would break out any second

"Get over here Seaweed Brain!" She had called

Percy chuckled, the sound not as bitter as before, and had a playful ring to it as he walked over to her, teasing her as he jabbed a finger in her direction "Coming my dear! You know you should really stop using new campers as bait. It is unbecoming of you"

"Unbecoming" Annabeth repeated, saying the word wrong but Percy doesn't correct her (neither does the rest of the camp who were gathered around them watching the exchange with mild interest)  and instead, his grin just widens "Big word Seaweed Brain, did you eat a dictionary or something?"

Pulling a face, Percy moves ever closer "You'd like that though"

"I can think of some other things I'd like"

"Oh yeah, like what"

What happened next had (and still has) my head completely spinning. Annabeth grips ahold of the lapels of his armour and smashes her lips against his in a breathless kiss and while the rest of the camp is cheering them on and stamping their feet. I am left in confusion and more wide-eyed than ever

I thought they hated each other!

With the way, they were going after each other all day with a mix of basic and creative insults. Some of which had me pinching my eyebrows together and the way the Chiron had to call the game a tie before someone got really hurt (although it was hard to see if that would happen because to me everything was a blur of water and daggers), it was a fair thing to think but apparently there was a thin line between love and hate

"This" Annabeth said, voice wrecked as she pulled away
