Estelle Jackson

NO MIST:

Thirteen-year-old Estelle always knew that her brother Percy was different.

It wasn't until a few weeks ago that she found out why though, but from a very young age she had always known that he wasn't exactly normal. It started when she was five, one night it was raining really hard and Estelle struggled to get to sleep thinking that the water would swallow the house whole and they would sink underground.

Percy came into her room, pen raised when he heard her cry, his eyes darker than a thousand storms as he sits on the edge of Estelle's bed and looks over at her frightened face and Estelle let out a little impish whimper as she jumped into her older brothers arms, knowing he would protect her from anything that may come her way he's been like that ever since she was born. Anything that came close to her that wasn't her mommy or daddy would instantly set him on edge

"Hey, wanna play a game starfish?" He whispered to her a moment later

"Yeah!" She giggled as she bounced on his lap

Estelle then watched in wonder and excitement as Percy pulled the raindrops outside into the room, through the small gap she had in her window for air and continued to make shapes into it. One dolphin. Two unicorns. A butterfly that had water wings and perched on the edge of the five-year old's nose making her giggle uncontrollably

Their mother had wandered in a couple of minutes later, wondering who and what was making all that noise and upon seeing her kids up way past their bedtime she frowned and sent Percy a dissapproving look upon seeing the water in the shape of a butterfly on Estelle's cheek but couldn't help the sleepy smile that curved up her lips at the sight of her baby boy who wasn't so much of a baby anymore look after his baby sister

But still with a stern voice laced with sleep and barely contained admiration Sally had ordered the two back to bed and with a protest the ended when she yawned halfway through Estelle was picked up by her big brother and placed back under the covers tightly tucked in so nothing could get to her and Percy and Sally wished her goodnight before heading back to their rooms. With an excited smile, Estelle closed her eyes tightly wishing to never grow up

That was the day that Estelle knew her older brother was magic

The second time that Estelle knew her brother was different was when she was eight, three years since that rainy night and she hadn't seen her brother use any of his magic she was honestly beginning to think she had dreamed the whole thing up because she wasn't a little kid anymore. She wasn't no matter what anyone said, she was a grown-up and could make her own decisions. She could even tie her own shoes and brush her own hair

That was until someone ended up pushing her over on the ground because they didn't want to play with her and she ended up running to Percy crying because she had scraped her knee and it was hurting so bad. Percy had chuckled and crouched down to her eye-level and wiped at her tears as she sniffed and looked up at Percy "Will it scar?"

"You know little Star sometimes scars can be a good thing. They can tell you where you've been and shape you into the person you are, you shouldn't be scared of having scars" Percy responded softly, ruffling her soft brown hair that fell down her back in waves

"You have scars!" Estelle said, pointing at one "Do you like them?"

"Not always" Percy responded, his voice dropping to a whisper and for a minute Percy seemed like a scared little boy and not the confident brother that Estelle knew would always pick her up after she fell

"Why?"

It was a question of childhood innocence and even though there was no malice behind her tone or words, she didn't know the weight the question carried and why would she? She had yet to be tainted by that world and Percy hoped to the Gods she never would be

"Never you mind little Star," Percy said, bopping the end of her nose

"Do we need a bandaid?" Estelle tilted her head in confusion

Percy shook his head and there it was again, Percy used his magic powers to make the cut disappear causing her to gasp because she swore it was there! It was! Now it was gone...But I was there...She saw it with her own eyes

Yes it was decided, her big brother Percy had magic

* * *

Thirteen-year-old Estelle always knew that her brother Percy was different.

It wasn't until a few weeks ago that she found out why though, but from a very young age she had always known that he wasn't exactly normal. But it turned out he was far from normal, he was half-god, half-human

Her big brother Percy was a demigod

It was a shock to say the least but eventually, the shock gave way to excitement. She was excited to learn more about his world and the adventures he had been on and after weeks and weeks of begging she had finally got her mom to agree to her seeing Poseidon.

Sally was of course a nervous wreck but Percy assured his mother that nothing was going to happen to her. It wasn't like she was meeting the whole Olympian Council (more pronunciation was put on Zeus and Hera and Estelle wondered why for a second) It was just Poseidon and besides she was staying with Percy and as long as she was with him. She was safe.

"Ready little Star?" Percy asked, grinning as she frowned

"I'm ready!" Estelle responded, "And don't call me that!"

Percy pouted, faking hurt "But that's your nickname!"

"Not since I was nine!" Estelle retailed, rolling her eyes at her brother's antics

"But it'll always be your nickname!" Percy tried again, getting ready for round two but before he could say anything more a knock was heard outside and not two minutes later. A middle-aged man in a Hawaiian shirt and khaki shorts that clashed with his tanned skin and black hair that was peppered with grey walked in like he owned the place

"Dad!" Percy exclaimed, going over to hug the man and he shook his head smiling a little "At least you remembered to knock this time"

"Yes I feared your mother would hurt me if I didn't this time"

"She's nervous enough as it is, best not make it worse" Percy agreed

"What's there to be nervous about? I'm just popping in to say hello to my son before heading back to Atlantis" The man, Poisedon said with an easy smile as if he just expected the world to fall in around him

"Dad, last time you did that you ended up saying there was this Great Prophecy and I can be the one to save the world or be it's undoing. So you can understand why mom is a bit anxious, you do not mess with mom when it comes to her kids. She still gets nervous if she doesn't hear from me in a couple of days -- which is understandable but it's like she forgets that I'm an adult sometimes"

"Percy my boy, you will never be an adult" Poisedon mumbled and just to prove his point on how much of an adult he was he stuck his tongue out at his father and a giggle escaped Estelle's mouth which she quickly covered up by putting her hand over her mouth and Poseidon turned to her as if just seeing her for the first time "Ah! This must be Estelle, I'm sure you know who I am. I'm Poseidon"

"You don't look like a God!" Estelle blurted out the first thing on her mind

"I see she's developed your tact Percy or lack thereof but I see she had inherited your mother's beauty" Poseidon spoke his eyes flicking from his son to the teenager in front of him, his eyes darkening as his mind becomes a prisoner to old memories and forgotten laughhs. Sally truly was the kindest mortal

"I don't need to think about that Dad!" Percy covered his ears, singing loudly causing Poseidon to let out a rough chuckle and soon enough Estelle joined him laughing along. Percy may be childish and he may be her protector

But above all to Estelle, he was magic.
