Warnings: Volleyball!reader, cursing⚠️

You had never been in this classroom before, but a friend of yours wanted to speak to you about some volleyball things.

Right when you walked in, Tanaka and Noya were messing around with a volleyball. You figured they'd knock something down and break it.

"Oh, hey Izumi." You greeted.

The two boys stopped playing for a second so you could get to her desk, you muttered a short thanks and went on.

"Hey! Be careful." Noya chuckled.

"I should be telling you that." Tanaka says.

They were being quite rowdy, Izumi and you had to slightly raise your voices in order to hear each other.

You sat facing the two boys and Izumi was in the seat in front, facing you.

"So I was thinking about this drill..." You nodded along with whatever she was saying, her voice faltered from your ears slowly.

You kept your focus on the two boys instead of the paper Izumi was showing you.

You slightly flinched when the ball came in close contact with the light.

"Noya! Be careful man, I'm not tryna get detention." Tanaka warned.

"It wasn't even that close." Noya waved him off.

From where you were at it was on the brink of hitting the light and having it shatter on the ground.

"Dude don't worry, I'm the best libero so I won't hit the light." Noya assured, motioning for Tanaka to keep passing with him.

Tanaka reluctantly passed again with him. This wasn't gonna end well.

Just as you thought, the ball came in contact with the light and a loud shatter was heard from inside the room. The ball bounced over to you, now it was in your hands.

"Fuck Noya! The light!" Tanaka yelled.

"Shit, I didn't mean to do that. Why'd you hit it at me so hard?" Noya argued.

"It was an accident!"

"My teacher is gonna kill me, she already hates my guts, I can't get a detention today and miss practice." Noya groaned.

"I'll be back." You say to Izumi. She nodded and figured you were going to give them their ball back.

The said teacher came in the room and gasped.

"What happened in here?" She says taking quick notice to the ball in your hands.

"Nishinoya Yuu." The teacher glared. "This was you wasn't it."

Noya looked at Tanaka, wishing the two had thought of something, anything to say to her.

"Umm.." They both trailed off.

"It was me. I did it." You took the blame.

"You? No way, I don't believe you." She scoffed. "I know you."

"Really, it was me. I broke it, it was an accident." You sigh trying to make it more believable. "I was messing around by myself and I accidentally hit the light."

She suspiciously eyed the two boys, before she could speak, you went on.

"These two just walked in, they saw me break it." You looked at the two and Tanaka nodded his head. It took an extra few seconds, but Noya nodded his head as well.

"Come with me, Y/n." She took the bait. You nodded and quickly grabbed your bag, heading out the door and walking alongside her.

She led you to the principles office, long story short, you had to deep clean not only your classroom, but hers as well for the rest of the week.

Luckily it didn't go on your record or anything since it was clean, it was a very stern warning though.

Once your coach heard about it, she was livid that one of her best players would be missing practice for a week.

"I know you didn't do it, so tell the truth because I'm not buyin' whatever story you have right now." Your coach demanded.

This conversation was not only hard on you, but it was also in front of the boys team, well almost half of them because practice was over and a few stayed after.

"I told you, it was me-"

"Y/n." She warned.

You sigh and kept quite, you weren't going to snitch on who actually broke it.

"Not talking huh. Well we'll have a one on one practice every day after your cleaning duty, so you better hope you don't have much homework this week." She says and gathered her things to leave for the night.

Once she left you too started to grab your things to head out, that was until a voice called out to you.

"Hey! Y/n was it?"

You turned and saw Noya running towards you.

"Let me walk with you real quick." He says. Even if you didn't want him to, he was already tossing his bag over his shoulder and taking a spot beside you.

"What's up?" You ask.

"Let me get straight to the point." He chuckled lightly. "Thank you for taking the blame, but you really didn't have to.."

"It's fine, I didn't want you to miss practice, I know how important it is right now for you to get reps in." You assured.

"I heard about the punishment." He sighed. "I feel really bad."

"I figured you were a tad bit childish and I knew you'd break the light." You say. "But really, I didn't even get in that much trouble, my record is clean so it was just a warning."

Now you really made him feel bad, you called him childish, which wasn't entirely wrong, but he didn't mean for the light to break.

He should've been more careful, he knows that now.

"I'll make it up to you." He says. "It's the least I could do."

You nodded, your house came up so you bid him a goodnight and went off. You showered and immediately went to bed, wanting to savor tonight's sleep before a long week ahead of you.

The school day went alright, a bit of homework was assigned, so you tried to do as much of it as you could during lunch and breaks.

The last bell rang and it was time to start your deep cleaning, in your class it was much easier because there were two others there.

Now it was for Noya's class, what you didn't expect was to see Noya himself in there.

"Aren't you supposed to be at practice?" You ask, wiping off some sweat on your forehead.

"I'll be cleaning the room, you'll be doing your homework. I told you I wanted to make it up to you." He began. "So I'll clean my classroom for the week."

This surprised you, you didn't really see him as the type to be disciplined.

"Oh.. thank you." You say and got out your schoolwork. Noya's teacher said beforehand that she'd be busy making copies and whatnot.

As he cleaned he kept conversation with you, he was thankfully good at that so it was never awkward.

You actually got to know him a lot better, internally Noya was trying not to scare you away since you're one of the first girls who's hasn't ran away yet.

He was glad that making conversation with you came natural.

You didn't even realize he was finished cleaning, the room was somewhat spotless, thankfully he had another four days to get it to become spotless.

"I'm sorry for saying that you were childish, you really surprised me today, by staying after." You say.

"It's the least I could do." He smiled back.

These next four days would go by in a flash, eventually on the last day he asked if you'd like to go in a date, he thanked the heavens when you said yes.

"So you're telling me that breaking a light led you to having a girlfriend?" Sugawara asked confusingly.

"Yup!" Noya beamed.

"Well at least we know why he missed this weeks practice." Coach Ukai sighed.
