"I don't want to take a bath though, Mekhi! I'm fifteen! I take showers, baths are for kids!" My little sister Aniyah complained as I walked to the bathroom with the pot of now hot water in my hands.
"You like cold showers?!" I turned to look at her and she froze before slowly shaking her head. "Alright then, take the bath. I did it, so you'll be straight."
"I shouldn't have to take a bath because—"
"What do you want me to do about it? It's only me taking care of us so at least try and be grateful. At least I'm trying."
"Pick up more shifts, Khi." She leaned against the sink as I dumped the water into the bathtub.
"Or you could just get a fucking job. I'm only seventeen years old, Aniyah. I'm not about to go to school for eight hours a day just to go to work right after. I only get two days off as is and when I do get those days off I'm busy scraping up money so you have a way to buy lunch the next day. I don't see you around here offering to get a job so I definitely shouldn't see you around this bitch complaining." I furrowed my eyebrows. "Your water is gonna get cold. Make it quick, the bus will be here soon."
