"You haven't been to school since the whole incident happened with those boys, you sure you're okay?" I asked, I was on the phone with Zion since it was lunch and she was my only friend.
Other than Mekhi, but we didn't have the same lunch block.
"I'm okay. I don't know when I'll be back though,"
I nodded my head. I wanted her to come back, obviously, but I had no idea how she was feeling right now and I'd be the worst person in the world if I told her how much I wanted her to come back to school.
"They're still at the school?"
"They've been suspended indefinitely. The school hasn't decided on whether or not they wanted to expel them or not." I said, watching her face change.
"They raped me," She started. "And they don't know if they want to expel them or not?"
"I tried to talk to my father about it. He writes the stories for the news, I was going to have him write this in somehow. My mom just shot it down though. She told me not to bring my school problems into my dads work."
"So she just doesn't care that—whatever,"
"I would try to do something so that they can get expelled, charged, arrested, all of that."
"I'm already pressing charges, that's not the problem. I want them expelled as well. They shouldn't be allowed in a school full of people they can take advantage of."
I shrugged. "Mekhi wants to help me plan some type of strike with all of the students—sexual assault victims or not. We're going to cut third period on Monday and just go on strike to get them expelled."
"Oh.." She trailed off. "One of their names is Judah. It's always the ones with Biblical names. Literal menaces to society."
"You want me to come over after school?"
"Aren't you like...grounded?"
"So? I'm not going to be with Mekhi anyway, I'm going to be with you."
"You snuck him into your house while your parents were sleeping, I don't think they're going to let you come over."
"What they won't know won't hurt them."
"I love that you're starting to not let your parents control you, but you need to chill out. They really won't let you do anything if you keep testing the waters."
