You never
Went to the library
With me
Like she did
You never
Had an interest
In reading
Like she did
You didn't care
Or even bothered to feign interest
Whenever I would ramble spiels
About the latest book I've read
But she always did
She listened
She knew what to say
And it was never faked
She took me to the library
Like you never did
She held the piles and piles of books
That I wanted to read
She always had a certain smile
One you'd never worn
She didn't mind
The weight of the books
That I asked her to hold
I knew
If you were in her shoes
You'd have complained and grumbled
Until I reluctantly put everything back
But not her
She didn't complain
She didn't grumble
She encouraged me
Built me up
Like you never did
She even
Pointed out other books
I hadn't even seen
She helped me
Cater my love
For reading
While you only made me feel ashamed
She
Was perfect
For libraries
And bookstores
And those tiny cafes
That no one notices
You were better for
Football games
And clubs
I needed someone quiet
Not someone loud
I needed her
I needed
My library girl
