Baking days

Are always fun

It could mean

A big event is just around the corner

Or maybe it's a spur of the moment

Just for fun

Didn't even check if all the ingredients are here

Kind of ordeals

Baking days mean

A radio blasting

And the windows open

The kitchen has been cleared

And a random apron that I didn't even know we had

Has been tossed on

It means

Pouring through the various cookbooks

And binders

Of tried and true recipes

Recipes that have been passed down through the family

Recipes recommended by friends

Picking the perfect one

Making it

And then adding a little twist at the end

To make it extra unique

And then close to the end

While it's baking in the oven

I can dust my hands off on my apron

Sending clouds of flour in the air

It's my favorite part

Not the cleaning up-

No, that can wait just a little longer

But having the beaters

And spoons and spatulas and all that

And having a taste of the batter

Knowing how much better it'll taste

Fresh out of the oven
