It's so hard
For me
To stay awake
Especially in the summers
When the sun
Takes forever
To set
But I try my best
Taking a nap in the afternoon
Just for precaution
I know
How much you enjoy
The drive-ins
How much more
You prefer sitting in your car
Than at a crowded theater
I have to agree with you there
But when the previews begin
I'm already under the blanket
Pressed against you
You tease me relentlessly
Asking if I lied about my nap
I say I didn't
And I falsely promise
I won't fall asleep
Not this time
You laugh
And hush me
Saying the movie is about to begin
I try
To stay awake
For the popcorn
For you
I always fail
And always wake up
To you also asleep
And the movie long over
It's a miracle
They keep letting us back
