It's so hard

For me

To stay awake

Especially in the summers

When the sun

Takes forever

To set

But I try my best

Taking a nap in the afternoon

Just for precaution

I know

How much you enjoy

The drive-ins

How much more

You prefer sitting in your car

Than at a crowded theater

I have to agree with you there

But when the previews begin

I'm already under the blanket

Pressed against you

You tease me relentlessly

Asking if I lied about my nap

I say I didn't

And I falsely promise

I won't fall asleep

Not this time

You laugh

And hush me

Saying the movie is about to begin

I try

To stay awake

For the popcorn

For you

I always fail

And always wake up

To you also asleep

And the movie long over

It's a miracle

They keep letting us back
