I've packed my bags
Thrown them into the trunk
I sit behind the wheel forever
The car sputtering with life
It's time to leave it all behind
I've made my amends,
Said my goodbyes in my heart
I wipe away the tears, turning the key
It's time to leave
Miles and miles of cornfields
Silos spotting the horizon
Fields of windmills
Fields of soybeans
I roll down the windows
Turning up the radio
I'm finally leaving
The tears don't stop
But I'm laughing now
Singing every word that comes through my speakers
I drum my fingers on the steering wheel
My foot pressing down on the gas
I'm leaving this town behind
I'm getting out of this forsaken state
I'm heading to the mountains
I can go anywhere I want
I'll miss you
But you won't miss me
I'm leaving you and this town behind
And while I'll cry,
I'll smile in the end
I finally get to leave you and that town behind
I'm finally escaping these endless plains
These dirt roads are no longer the only roads I'll know
I'll learn new roads
And I'll forget about you
Not completely though
Memories of you will always be in my mind
Though they may fade
I'm leaving it all behind
That town
You, him, her
All of them
And if you ever wonder why I left
Know it's because while I'm crying on these backroads,
I'm ultimately singing and giddy as ever because
I'm finally
Finally
Leaving behind the endless fields of corn and soybeans
