Maia's POV
Two and a half months later . . .
Harper and Stephen have been hospitalize since, after the incident in Denvers. Both of them are in critical condition. Both of them got different surgeries, because of their situation.
Stephen got damage one or two of his organs. While Harper lose a lot of blood. Kung si Stephen ay bugbog at halos mamatay, si Harper naman ay malalaking sugat ang natamo sa kanyang katawan.
Both of them are in a coma. Pero lastweek ay naunang nagising si Stephen.
Thankfully walang nagpapakitang damage o kahit na anong signs sa kanyang utak. He can't speak properly because he's still weak but overall, the doctor said that he's totally fine now. He just need to heal and recover for a few months.
Maybe he'll need to go to the rehab too.
On the other hand..Harper.
Bumuntong hininga ako habang nakatingin sa loob ng kanyang room rito sa loob ng ICU.
She's laying on her big hospital bed. Not moving at all. Just sleeping. And barely breathing.
Wires and tubes on her mouth and nose from the oxygen and other stuff na nakakabit sa kanyang katawan. Ang heartbeat lang ng kanyang puso galing sa monitor, ang nagbibigay ingay sa buong room.
As much as I want to go inside, pero hindi 'ko magawa. At hindi pwede.
Napatingin ako kay Atlas na tahimik na nakaupo sa tabi ni Harper. He's been here the whole time, since day one.
He even reduce his working time sa pagpunta sa Air Force para mas maraming oras ang mapuna niya rito sa Hospital. After his work, he immediately run here to see and to take care of Harper. Halos ito narin ang naging bahay niya. He changed, eat and do his things here without hesitation.
..just for her.
All of his effort, I realize that he's been inlove with her the whole time. Deeply inlove with her since the beginning, when we were in college. Kahit matagal na paghihintay sa paggising niya, nandito parin siya.
He waited. And waited. And waited, everyday.
Hoping she'll regain her consciousness.
And be with her again.
"Can't go inside?" Si Eliot nang dumating at tumabi saking tabi, bago siya lumingon sa may glass wall.
"Atlas's here." I answered sabay turo sa kanya na nasa loob.
Dapat kasi ay isang tao lang ang kailangang pumunta roon para bumisita at makapasok.
"From work?" Eliot asked again. Ilang beses na niyang natanong ito but still, he keep asking. And we both know why.
I nodded. Sinasabing kagagaling lang nga niya sa work. As always.
He sighed.
"It's one a.m in the morning." Si Eliot muli sabay tingin sa kanyang relo.
"I think you should talk to him. Para kumain man lang kahit saglit. Or change his clothes? I'll stay with her for the mean time." Kako kay Eliot.
Keegan reported me na ilang oras nang nandito si Atlas since siya ang nakabantay kanina. Kaya rin nagpunta ako rito ngayon to check Harper.
Tumango siya at sinubukang pumunta sa loob para sabihan si Atlas.
At first, he looks like he doesn't want to leave. But Eliot talked to him again and explained properly. That he needs to get out and do his things. Keeping his self healthy, so he can take care of Harper anytime.
Until he agreed and gave a nod.
I sighed when I walked in, in her room.
Flowers and letters are in the corner. Kahit bawal ay nilagay nalang iyun sa may gilid para kahit papano'y may kaunting mga bagay na makikita rito sa kanyang room.
I sat and looked at Harper.
I started to bite my lips.
..stopping myself from crying, again.
"Keegan reported l-last morning that Carson visited around lunch for a few minutes? Sayang hindi ko na siya naabutan pa, beacuse of our mini task recently." Kwento 'ko sa kanya.
"The upper heads are still debating whether they will keep us still, as the Alpha Team. O-or disband us and just be a regular soldier."
"Colonel Walker suggested that we should dismissed for few months because of the situation–"
"You know our laws. No one should know our true identity." I explained.
I sighed when I don't receive an answer from her. Kahit alam ko namang wala talaga akong makukuhang sagot mula sa kanya.
"He even suggested that we should join the Delta team, since they needed some help. They have a new mission last month."
"It's not like from our previous missions but, it's still interesting though." Dagdag 'ko.
"But overall, it's fine." I pause for a few seconds and looked at her face.
"Y-you know,"
"..it d-doesn't matter if we'll be still, the Alpha Team again or not. If we'll be back to service or dismiss,"
"..as long as y-you...you w-wake up Harper." Hindi ko na nakayanan pa at tumulo muli ang mga luha ko na kanina pang pinipigilan.
Hanggang sa tumalikod ako. Sobbing silently because I missed her so much. Pero ang sabi nila ay dapat hindi kami umiiyak sa harap niya. There's this belief that we should cheer her up, so she can wake up fast.
Agad kong pinigilan ang aking sarili sa pag-iyak. Inayos ko ang aking sarili bago humarap muli sa kanya.
I started to smile at her.
"I know you'll get angry after all of this shit–"
"..but for now, please."
"Wake up, Harper." I said with a sincere voice.
"Remember. You're a Martinez. A Mar-ti-nez, Harper." Diin ko sa kanya.
Napatigil ako nang napatingin sa glass wall dahil kakadating na muli ni Atlas na bagong bihis.
