"Please, don't do this to me!"
I see Asuna on the ground, bleeding from a stab wound and fumble for my phone. I call an ambulance and try my best not to cry. I hold her hand and Yui flies on top of mine. We're both wearing our Augmas so we can see our daughter. Asuna was stabbed while we were walking down the street to her house by a hooded figure. I'm not certain, but I think it was a former member of Laughing Coffin not ready to give up their murderous lifestyles. I hear sirens and see that Asuna has her eyes closed now. I gently start shaking her,
"Come on, Asuna. Wake up."
There is a considerable amount of blood on the ground under her, but I'm trying to stay positive. Two paramedics hop out of the emergency vehicle and one unloads a stretcher from the back. They both start coming towards us, and one is carrying a large shoulder bag. Once they reach my beautiful wife, one paramedic takes me aside and starts asking questions.
"What happened?"
I know I said that in the phone call and I'm too in shock to answer. I stare at Asuna, who is getting bagged and has obviously stopped breathing. I'm very, very worried about her. The answer finally comes numbly,
"She...was...stabbed."
The male EMT talking to me then asks,
"Do you know by who?"
I shake my head and he continues,
"What's your relationship to the victim?"
I hold up my hand to show the ring on my finger. He tells the EMT working on Asuna to check for a ring. I say,
"I'm her husband. Is...is she gonna..."
My voice trails off because I can't bring myself to say it. I just start to cry and he responds,
"We're doing all we can. She was DOA, but it appears we've regained a pulse."
I have no words at what he just said and they load her up once she's carefully transferred onto the stretcher. I sit in the back with her, holding her hand the entire time and tearfully reassuring her. We arrive at the hospital where she's immediately taken to the intensive care unit. I follow her and the doctor warns me I should wait outside but I stand my ground. I will not be separated from her. She's put on a ventilator and then I'm sent away shortly after because she's taken into surgery to repair the damage done by the knife. She was stabbed in the stomach and technically died on scene. She's there in the hospital for over a month and I stay by her side the whole time. She did the same for me after the incident that left me in a coma.
