"Håvard, I think it's time you took a break. You've been working yourself to the bone the last month. I've actually been planning a trip to visit my parents here in a few days. Why don't you come along?" I said to Håvard, my boyfriend of three years. He sighed, rubbing his forehead. He'd been swamped with work recently, not only from the work here in America, but from back home in Norway too. He'd been here now for forever, and he was looking to go back home.

"I know, I know. But I need to get these papers done and shipped out by next week. I'm almost done, if I can stay up one more night they'll be done and I can go home early," he mumbled, barely coherent as he scribbled along the papers. The fatigue was worryingly evident.

I sigh, rubbing his shoulders lightly as he leaned back into me.

"Take a break, dear. The papers will still be here tomorrow morning and you can get them done then. Then you can come with me to my parents before you move back to Norway, yeah?" I compromised, trying to convince him to come to bed with me just for a night. Håvard sat there thinking about it a while before sighing, setting his pen down and getting up.

"Alright, alright. I'll finish them tomorrow and come with you to see your parents," he finally agreed. I smile, giving him a light kiss.

"They're gonna love you. I've already told them so much about you," I smiled. My parents had yet to meet Håvard and they were eager to do so. This was the perfect opportunity.

"I hope so. Now let me change and I'll join you in bed here in a bit baby," he said, pulling me in for a quick big and kiss on the head before walking off to get his pajamas.

The time came for me to leave to visit my parents. I had let them know Håvard was coming with me, but I still felt nervous. What if they didn't like him? What if Håvard didn't like them? All these questions spun in my mind on the flight there, that is was hard to focus on anything else. I think Håvard noticed this and gave my hand a gentle squeeze, trying to reassure me. It worked just enough to get me to sleep the rest of the way.

...

"Y/n, wake up. We're here," I heard someone whisper to me, accompanied by a light shaking. I groan, sitting up from my slouched position.

"I'm up, I'm up. What time is it? My parents are coming to get us, so they want to know when we land," I mumbled, sitting up and stretching out. After Håvard let me know the time, we headed out, waiting for my parents. I was nervous, to say the least. I didn't know about him, but if he was nervous he didn't show it.

"Y/n! Oh, we haven't seen you in so long!" My mom said, bringing me in for a hug with a huge smile. My dad joined in, neither of them noticing Håvard off to the side.

"Yeah, uni has been keeping me busy. Håvard too, but now that he's graduated he's planning on going back to Norway," I explained, pulling away from them to grab Håvard's hand and pull him towards me.

"Håvard, my parents. Mom, dad, my boyfriend Håvard."

My parents finally noticed the Norwegian man as I introduced them, their smiles getting wider as they shook his hand.

"Finally nice to meet you, Håvard. My son here has been telling the both of us so much about you," my dad said, giving him a smile.

"We should get going. We've got dinner on the stove and your little sister is home alone right now," my mom said as we started heading out of the airport and to the car.

"S/n (sisters name) is home today? Sweet!"

Walking through the door, I immediately stormed up the stairs to S/n's room. Pushing it open I stood there, giving her a smug grin.

"Ew, you're home. How long you gonna be here?" She asked, getting up from her bed.

"Couple days. Håvard's here if you wanna meet him," I said before walking out. I laughed as I heard a gasp behind me.

"HE'S ACTUALLY REAL?? HOLD UP-"

I left her there as I ran back downstairs. Håvard was talking to my parents with the family dog in his lap. Marley was a big dog, a newfoundland, so I was surprised he left her on his lap. Goblin, our blue macaw, was sitting on his window perch, preferring to watch Håvard from a distance.

Footsteps pounding down the steps announced my sister's arrival. At the sight of Håvard she groaned.

"How did you get a boyfriend before I got one? Unfair," she mumbled, crossing her arms and pouting. Håvard laughed at this.

"Well, maybe you just haven't met anyone like I met Y/n," Håvard snickered. I sat down by him as he wrapped an arm around my shoulder, Marley crawling into my lap.

"Yeah, like I know how you guys met," s/n grumbled, taking Goblin off his perch.

"Surprised Y/n hasn't told you. He was my tutor when we met. Saved my ass in more than one class. He also showed me a much more efficient way to do my work, so I was way less stressed and had way more free time," he explained, S/n listening surprisingly close.

"Sounds cheesy. But it sounds like he saved you from a lot of stress," she said before walking into the kitchen. Mom had called us in for dinner, so I patted Marley's rear and got him off as we headed to the kitchen to eat.

"So Håvard is it really true you're going back to Norway to become a paramedic?" My dad asked from across the table.

"It's true. Now that I'm done training here in America, I'm more than qualified back in Norway. I actually trained there for a bit before coming here," he explained, glad someone was interested. It was the I remembered something I forgot to tell my parents. Håvard and I had been planning on going to Norway together, as I'd be able to continue my studies in (major) much better there and still be close to him. Remembering this, I nudged Håvard slightly, quietly asking him about it. He nodded a bit in response.

"So, uh, Mom, Dad I've got something to say. I'm planning on going to Norway with Håvard to finish my studies. We've had it planned for a while now, it was just a matter of informing you guys," I said fidgeting with my hands. This caused Håvard to grab them, keeping them steady in his.

"Well, I was just about to ask how that would work with him moving so far and you staying in the US. But I'm glad you two worked it out," my mom grinned, glad to see her son was happy and healthy with someone treating him right. I sighed in relief, the stress disappearing from my shoulders.

This really went a lot better than I could have expected.

××× 6 years later, Aces POV ×××

Laying in bed, I waited for Y/n to get done with his work and join me. It feels unreal, knowing we'd only been here for six years and married two. To think, only six years ago we'd both been stressing out about final exams and what I'd do now that I was graduating soon. Now, we were both graduated, Y/n a skilled (job) and I a paramedic. It was like a dream come true.

Walking into the room, Y/n flopped onto the bed and under the covers, curling up with his arms tightly around me, smiling at me softly.

"I love you, honey. Good night"

"Jeg elsker deg også, min kjærlighet."
