Lizzie sits down at the table and watched me cut up some fruit for us to snack on before we go deal with the goats. There is not much to do for them today because I got it all done yesterday which is good. I'm excited for tonight because it's going to be the first time Lizzie is sleeping over and I hope it goes well.
I finish cutting up the fruit and bring it over to her, sitting down across from her.
"Thank you!" She says and quickly takes some.
"Your welcome!" I say back and smile at the face she makes when she eats a sour blueberry.
"Hey, don't laugh! I wasn't expecting that to be sour." She giggles and I do too.
We continue to finish the bowl of fruit exchanging looks but staying silent. When we are finished I grab the bowl and put it in the dishwasher while Lizzie gets her, or should I say my boots on. I get mine on too and we head over to the goat pen. I can see Lizzie starting to get excited but then her face just drops out of nowhere.
"What's wrong?" I ask her, wondering what the nods change is about. She stops walking and stares at the pen for a minute before responding.
"Last time I was here the goats knocked me over and I had a bunch of bruises for a while," she states and I nod my head in remembrance. I go over to the shed, grab a shovel and hand it to her.
"Here, hold this. They won't be able to knock you down as long as you have it touching the ground. Make sure both your feet are on the ground too." I say and she nods back at me. We step into the pen and the goats start surrounding us because they know I am going to feed them.
I grab the hose and start cleaning out their feeding bed while Lizzie stands behind me and observes. I finish rinsing it out and go to grab the food. Again Lizzie stands there observing me. Honestly, I don't mind. She helped me a lot earlier and I know she's worried about getting knocked over. She will get used to them though.
I fill the feeding bed up with the goat food and shovel some of the visible poop into a bin near the far fence so I can collect it in the morning. After I am done I walk back over to find Lizzie still standing holding the shovel and looking around. I go up to her and steal it from her hands before she has time to react.
"Hey! I need that!" She yells as I run away. She stays out with a frown on her face so I put the shovel down and go back over to her.
"Just hang on to me now. I want to show you something and the shovel can not come." I joke and she rolls her eyes but smiles. I pull her over to the back of the sheaf and gently pull her down and point underneath the ahead in a little hole. She looks for a few seconds and when her eyes connect she lets out a little squeal of excitement.
"Baby bunniessss," she whispers and looks at me, but then her attention quickly goes back to the baby black and white bunnies. I love how excited she gets over the littlest things. Ugh, and it's so cute when she scrunches her nose too.
"How old are they?" She asks.
"I think they are about two weeks now. I saw them about a week ago and they have grown a lot in a short time." I reply. I stand up after being crouched down long enough. She sees that I am not beside her and she looks around trying to figure out where I went.
"Lizzie I'm right here," I say and laugh. "Did you think I left you?"
"For a second I did yes." She says and lets out the breath she was holding.
"I wouldn't do that, don't worry. And I have something else to show you! Follow me." I say and motion for her to follow. Lizzie trails behind me while I walk towards all the goats. I stop after I approach the goats and turn back to look at her. She quickly walks to me and grabs my arm worried that the goats are going to knock her over again. I laugh and walk over to the goat food with Lizzie still latched onto my arm.
"I taught the goats a few tricks! They can't do many but the ones they can do are pretty funny." I state and she nods letting me know she's listening.
I grab some of their food in my hands and call one of them over. The goat stands in front of me with its eyes wide, waiting for my command.
"Jump!" I say and the goat takes off on all fours in the air as high as my head.
"Oh my god!" She yells as she watches the goat pass my head.
"There's more!" I bring another 2 goats over and give them the command.
"Flip!" I say and the one goat runs at the other, jumping onto his back and pushing off backwards doing a flip and landing back on its feet.
"Ok, that was impressive. How did you even teach them to do that?" She asks.
"Honestly it was a lot of time and practice, with the help of a few YouTube videos," I laugh and so does Lizzie.
She asks if I can teach her how to command the goats to do a trick, so I do. We stand out there for an hour and she successfully teaches the goats how to do the tricks. Once we have had enough. We sit down on a hay bail to relax for a minute before we go to the garden.
"So how do you like farm life so far?" I ask her.
"While for the half-day I have been here so far, I have to say it's pretty fun. Some of the animals make me a little shifty as you know, but I will get used to them," she smiles.
"I'm sure you will. I'm glad you are having fun. I am too. I'm excited to show you the garden because I know how much you adore yours at home!" I say and her eyes light up.
"Ugh, I do love my garden so much. I hate being away from it because it doesn't stay as nice as it does when I am there. The gardeners that I hire to watch everything while I'm gone do a good job but they don't get right in there and take all the bugs out or trim the bottoms of the plants." She rambles on for a couple more minutes about how she likes her garden to be perfect and I just observe her and him once in a while to show I'm paying attention.
After she is done we wrap up our conversation and start walking towards the garden. I can see how excited she is getting and it makes me excited too! This is going to be fun.
