"Max, meet Nailea."
"Nai, meet Max." Vinnie introduced me to Nailea, one of his close friends. A girl friend. She was sweet to look at at even sweeter in person but who knows what this chick wanted. Vinnie, clout, drugs. The world may never know.
"It's so glad to finally meet the Max."
"It's great to meet you to."
"Vinnie." Thomas stood in the doorway, slightly annoyed. "We're going out to dinner and you choose now to introduce them?" He shook his head and Vinnie laughed.
"Alright I'm coming. Let me find my shoes."
"Hurry up. Our reservation is in 40 and if we miss it we're screwed."
Vinnie glanced at me and I knew he was hesitant about tonight. They were going out and he wanted me to come. I didn't agree. I was still walking on thin ice with most of the house and I didn't need paparazzi making it worse. So I stayed home.
He invited Nailea in my place.
I wasn't mad. I was worried. I knew they were friends in his eyes but in hers? I would never know. In the world's? I didn't want to listen.
"You guys have fun. Bring me back something funny."
"Try not to burn down the house." Vinnie grinned and stood, wrapped his arms around me. I paused and patted his back. He backed off and held his arm out to Nai. "Shall we?"
"We shall." They interlocked arms and I followed them out until the stairs where I watched them descend. Both of them dressed in nice outfits it seemed too formal. Like a king and queen walking into a ballroom. I shook my head at the thought and returned to Vinnie's room.
The aroma of the cookies made me look up from my laptop. I was job browsing so I could get back on my feet and could get out of this house.
I munched on cookies as I snapped Drew and played around with Zillow. I drifted from jobs to apartments to nice houses. I could almost imagine me and Vinnie sitting on the back steps watch our dogs playing with each other. Hera and Bear would be lounging in the setting sun's rays. Everything would be perfect.
I could feel the sun on me as the image became so real. I could feel Vinnie's arm brushing against mine as we encouraged the dogs. We would look at each other and laugh as one of them tumbled over the other and I"d rest my head against him shoulder, content with my life.
I knew this was a moment I'd cherish forever. I wish I could stay here. Stay here where everything was perfect.
Except it wasn't.
I was broke, jobless, technically homeless, friendless, and in a questionable relationship.
Vinnie
"Vinnie! Vinnie! Over here!"
"Vinnie! Nailea! Any news on your relationship?"
I tried so hard to tune out the paparazzi and Nai could tell I was getting agitated. She put a hand on my shoulder and we put on our bravest faces.
I was so thankful when we were in the car. Even if it was with Nailea. She sighed and I laughed. "I know."
"I wish this shit would fucking stop. Neither one of us likes each other and y'know it's not like we've told them multiple times."
"Get a boyfriend and finally end this shit." Nai laughed,
"Get a girlfriend and you end this shit." I looked at Nai and smirked.
"I'm trying."
Nailea sat for a moment before turning on me. "Vinnie! Oh my god, who?! Wait you have to tell me everything."
"You're place?"
"No fucking way! It's Max?"
I glanced at Nailea and raised an eyebrow. "You got that from me waiting to go to your house?"
"We'll obviously you can't tell me all about it in front of her. So yeah. Why else would we go to my place?" Nai paused and smirked, facing forwards. "Unless someone finally lost the bet."
I laughed. "You're an idiot. I can't believe you're still on about the bet."
"It was funny. How could I not?"
