Chapter 49, Bonding Times

The evening sun painted the bule sky a tint of orange. Among the green field, the two wooden swords clashed as the wind blow the fallen leaves away. Both of them are panting as one blocked another's attack. However, the strength of the strike made the other one almost lost its footing. To one's surprise, they backflipped, not giving the peosn a chance to attack.

'' You have improved. '' Muichiro says, his hair sticking to his face from sweating. You gave him a grin. '' And you are still stronger than ever! '' He nodded and muttered a ' thanks ' which you caught wind of. You smiled at him and couldn't help but notice the red hues on his cheeks. Perhaps  the weather is too hot, you both are sweating really hard from training the whole day after all.

Muichiro settled under one of the tree's shade as he gestures you to come over, which you did. You gesture Muichiro to turn around which he obliged with a confused face, you combed his hair using your fingers and gather the hair into one of  your palm. You couldn't help but notice that his hair is really soft and silky, it suddenly feel fragile in your hands. You lifted the hair and swiftly tied it with the signature butterfly clip you have on hand. 

'' There! Now, we are matching! '' You gesture to the clips you both had on your heads with a big grin painted on your face. This triggered a small smile on Muichiro's usual emotionless face.

To no one's surprise, Muichiro lays his head down on your lap and closed his eyes. You didn't question anything as this is a normal interaction between you two.

You take his silky and smooth hair between your fingers and Muichiro visibly relaxes. You yawn and slowly fell asleep as the fatigue takes over you both.

You stir awake as you feeling movements on your body. You rubbed your eyes as you look around in confusion. Only after a few moments, you realized you were on Muichiro's back.

'' You're awake. '' Muichiro said in a matter of fact tone. You hummed, still feeling weak since you just woke up.

You notice the sound of the gentle wind breeze and owls. ' oh, it's this late already ' Muichiro's unusual and gentle voice cut off your thoughts.

'' You can sleep, i will protect us both. '' You lean closer and tighten your arms around his neck as you feel Muichiro become somewhat stiff, which you ultimately ignore. '' Are you sure? I can walk by myself y'know. '' You only got an audible hum as a reply. 

'' If you say so, mui-chan. '' You set your chin on his shoulder as you sleepily look ahead. The comfortable silence surround you both.

'' What do you think about Tanjiro-kun? '' You suddenly asked, but all you got was the loud silence that fall deaf on your ears. '' Mui-chan? '' You called out.

'' Hmm? ''

You repeated the question, assuming he didn't heard your question.

'' Who is he again? '' You sighed, but not really surprised.

'' He's my friend, the one we met at the forest today. '' You patiently explain but all you got was a curt ' doesn't ring a bell '.

Soon, you gave up and just stayed quiet all the way to the village.

'' You were a mistake, unlike your brother but you're more useful. That's the purpose of your existence, be useful to me. ''

'' Kaa-chan, why is brother avoiding me..? ''

'' Onii-chan!! Wake up!! Wake up! Onii-chan!! What are you doing to my brother!? ''

'' ***!! We must get out of here! Now! ''

You woke up with a gasp, bathed with sweat all over your body. Mitsuri, who was sleeping beside you, stirred in her sleep, muttering about sakura mochi.

' Calm down, y/n..Calm down... ' You take deep breaths as you try to calm your nerves. '..what's that..who are they..? '

You lay down again, facing the ceiling. Suddenly, the cieling looks interesting more than anything in the world to you. Your eyelids are getting heavy by time, but you didn't dare to sleep, afraid that those dreams would bother you again. You don't remember nor know anyone that who were presented in your dream. But, for some reason, the mere thought of them make your chest fill with unpleasant feelings.

You almost feel asleep, inches away to reach your dreamland but you suddenly shot up with wide eyes and stared at the window. Mitsuri stirred in her sleep again at your sudden movement which you winced at. You quickly grabbed your katana that was rested beside your futon and swiftly disappear into the night sky.
